The highly Oscar-tipped new PT Anderson film starring Leonardo DiCaprio



This took a little while to get going, but for the last hour or so I found it very gripping, and occasionally very funny. At times I felt like Leo was playing a combo of Jeff Bridges in The Big Lebowski and John Goodman in The Big Lebowski. Sean Penn gets in some good scenery chewing as the villain. He really is quite distractingly veiny though.

I was a bit disappointed that Regina Hall didn't get more to do. From the pre-release press I assumed she was basically the co-lead... she's only in about four scenes!

Saw a trailer for this and thought “absolutely fucking not!” then saw PTA’s name at the end, so I’ll have to catch it at some point.

Oh I loved this. Found it quite Tarantino-esque in parts, great performances from the leads and very funny in parts too. Good to see Alana Haim back on the big screen briefly too.

I really enjoyed the last hour. Had very little idea of what was going on at the beginning, but seemingly neither did Leo’s character either, so I assume it was like that on purpose. He continues to be excellent in almost everything he does.

I just need to see it again, because the motivations of half of the characters were a little lost on me. Glad the trailer didn’t give away anything though, and appreciated the lovely use of the Jackson 5’s version of Ready or Not.
