So the dust has definitely settled on this one. I remember the general reaction, at the time (at least among non pretentious journos), was that it was a pleasant surprise and a rather great pop song.

Her voice has obvious limits but I find it surprisingly competent for the breezy, Summer reggae/calypso pop feel. I rarely play it, admittedly, I mean how often does one think of Paris Hilton in 2014, AND the fact that she once had a marginally promising music career? But once in awhile it makes for a lovely listen

US #18 and UK #5

POP! would you PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE include a zero option on your polls? It drives me spare. :hitler:

This was a 7/10 song by a 2/10 voice. The fact that she was so utterly dislikable didn't help either.

I'd agree with 7/10, but Nothing In This World was a genuine should've-been-huge mid 00s pop classic and even had a charming, only slightly narcissistic video going for it.

I'm sure I posted this story in another Paris Hilton thread recently, but I remember working at HMV when her album came out and the silly queen who ordered the new releases got in far too many copies (i.e. more than 2) in anticipation of a smash hit.

When 3 days in we hadn't even sold one, we were forced to put the damn thing on a constant loop in a desperate bid to shift it. This did not have the desired effect.

I like the one that samples Grease, and Screwed is alright. Never got the appeal of Nothing In This World, but maybe if someone with any kind of voice was singing it I'd enjoy it more. As I recall the rest of the album was absolutely execrable dreck. Didn't she cover Do Ya Think I'm Sexy? :daf:

Pleasant enough, but not quite the towering masterpiece I believed it was in 2006.

7/10, yes, but the album is actually pop greatness! I'm going to dig it out in an age- it is really far better than it should be...

Oh my god "Heartbeat" (samples "Time after Time") is so so bad in hindsight, I genuinely thought it was really good at the time. It really goes to show how she has absolutely zero range whatsoever, monotone bitch

My heart beats like a drum
When I hear you come

Drips with such conviction as well

i LOVED Heartbeat :D bless her for getting Scott Storch on board for some white urban cred

I still love Heartbeat, it's just a shame it's actually her as that spoken word bit was even worse than the similar Janet Jackson one. Stars Are Blind, the Alex G remix of Screwed, Nothing In This World (Jason Nevins) and Heartbeat are still among the best of what was around at the time. Her new one was alright too. I wish she had kept it up more, she was more than decent when on form.

She allegedly cried after she heard this in its final form because it was so good, and frankly I don't blame her. The 'Paris' album ticks a lot of boxes and doesn't overstay its welcome either. Fun for Europe? Fun for EVERYONE

This is a very very good pop song, regardless of who recorded it.

'Nothing In This World' is fairly pedestrian.

It was always a far, far better song than the UB40 song it ripped off

Excuse me for feeling..

this performance is a fucking monstrosity that even Mildred can't save. what is Sia doing there and why is she singing like that? has she never heard this song before? bringing Paris out for it feels like too obvious a stab at creating a viral moment for it to be any fun.

Disgusted Paris Hilton GIF

I was a bit bemused at the level of shaking and crying coming from the crowd when she appeared, I thought she was still ironic appreciation fodder for gays instead of someone you'd expect Taylor Swift to bring out on stage after Lena Dunham and Hillary Clinton.

They should've done Screwed instead 😍

Screwed is so mid 00s pop-rock album track it HURTS. it must have been written for Lindsay, right? that chorus :disco: do we know who's singing it?

Miley should record 'Screwed' like she did Ashlee's 'Kicking and Screaming'.

this Ashley Tisdale album was MARVELLOUS. it's alright it's okay, how do you love someone, erase and rewind... banger nation. a couple of years too late though.

Stop everything. After thorough research, I Can confirm the Screwed demo (Originally titled I Screwed) was recorded by Harlie Duff of this fame

"Nothing In This World" and "Screwed" are the Paris bops for the ages.

I've always found "Stars Are Blind" to be terribly overrated, but then cod reggae isn't really my THING.
