So if you get a passive-aggressive email, PLEASE post it in this thread ANONYMOUSLY for everybody to pick over :disco:

Not expecting a GOLD RUSH, but hopefully in time this thread will ADELANTE!

Hi Indie

I appreciate you taking the time to let us know how you feel about our Oral-B advertising.
We use a variety of consumer panels and market research to try to understand consumer’s views.

Feedback like yours helps supplement our research, giving us a broader insight into people's opinions. I’m sorry we didn’t get it quite right for you on this occasion and I hope our future adverts are more to your liking.

Thanks again for taking the time to contact us.

Kind regards,

What BEER AND RUM FUELLED ABUSE did you send them to get this?

I wish i had a copy of it. Basically I said that their adverts (which have been repeating since 2017 - BUM HIPS HEART etc) were causing me mental anguish.

It's a small hobby of mine to complain to major corporations about trivial matters.

Hi T,
how are you?
Your laptop was returned to the computing room without a charger (and not in good condition, as far as I can see).
Can you please also bring in the charger? You can leave it on the front desk, they'll give it to me.

Kind Regards,

Z

Hi Z,

Thanks for letting me know. Yes, I'll bring it in to school. It must still be in my bag.

Regarding the condition, I'm sure you can appreciate that there was little I could do to fix it when the battery stopped working and I was in Ireland under lockdown.

Thanks,
T

I suppose I could have emailed them asking them to provide a new battery, but still, it went dead days after I got it so I just had to rely on my own. And the email is proper snarky.

Dear Parking Person,

I am writing to appeal against the above parking ticket that I feel I was unjustly issued on the 16th day of December, 2008 at roughly 20:18 on Byrom Street.

I have given the following appeal much consideration; was the penalty fair and just? Did I contravene the rules and regulations that keep our highways clear and accessible? In my humble opinion, I did not. Please be aware this is not a flippant appeal, it is one that I have pondered deeply.

Firstly, let me set the scene for you in the moments prior to my misguided choice of parking space. The night was dark, damp, and cold. A heavy mist of fine precipitation filled the gloomy air, and I was lost upon my journey to the newly developed area of Spinningfields. As a virgin resident of the fine Corporation and City of Manchester, conditions like this are challenging even to a comprehensive navigator of motor vehicles such as my self. Not only was frustration setting in, but the cold sense of apprehension crept slowly up my spine, for I was already late for an appointment with a fair maiden that very evening.

No sooner was I losing grip upon the skills of chivalry which I pride myself, did I stumble across Spinningfield's like an urban oasis of lights and eateries. Joy swept through me for not only had I arrived at the very destination i had given up all hope of finding, but on the very street I had turned into were parked cars not dis-similar to my own.

Hastily, for I was now 11 minutes late, I halted my vehicle by the side of the road, disembarked, and glanced around in the grimy weather that enveloped me. On my side of the road, no sign could be seen, so I briskly checked the other side of the road. HARK! the sign brought good news, parking here was fair.

With a jaunty dash I made my way past the laughter of ice skaters to Gormet Burger Kitchen, which I recommend to you my good friend, and enjoyed a fine meal with fine company, safe in the knowledge my car was parked appropriately, as it always should be.

Alas, this happy story does not end here, instead, it lends its ending to sadness. Imagine my horror upon returning to find every esteemed automobile owners worst enemy, the dreaded black and yellow pouch. Afixed like a polyurethane albatross around my beloved vehicles neck.

Upon further investigation (not after a little embarrassment I hasten to add) I noticed a small sign indicating the bay I was parked in was not for parking, it was for loading only. I had been a bad man. Normally I would accept this elementary error, pay my fine like an honest gentleman and endeavour to be more thorough in my parking choices, no matter what the weather conditions or how tardy my time keeping.

In retrospect however, I would like to draw your attention to the attached photograph, taken moments after the discovery of my penalty notice, you can clearly see the sign is facing a full 180 degrees AWAY from the road its self. Highly unfair to the diligent parkee, especially in hindsight of the weather conditions that night.

It is with this I appeal to you to consider revoking this enforcement charge. I am sure if the warden himself had noticed the lack of clearly displayed parking information he too would have reconsidered spending 7 minutes in such terrible conditions to ensure I was indeed parking and not loading, as I'm sure he did that terrible night.

I look forward to your return correspondence and heartfelt judgment over this pressing matter.

In terms of passive aggressive emails I have received, I feel as though I have everyone else beat. One of my former managers at a previous job (who basically destroyed my mental health during the period I was managed by them) turned passive aggressiveness into an art form.

I was just under three months into my job when I received the following email. Background is that my manager had been asked me to move the time of a meeting between us later in the day. For the FIRST AND ONLY TIME, I did this without looking at their calendar. Instead of just telling me there was a clash and reminding me to always check diaries like a fucking NORMAL PERSON, I received the following:

“Dear Tetris,

Thank you.

I have my one-to-one with [name of CEO] at 1.

This is in my calendar, so I presume there must be a fault with the display settings, which is why it wasn’t visible to you when you checked my calendar before you rebooked the appointment. One to log as an ICT ticket.

While you’re waiting for this to be sorted, please ask one of the team to look at my calendar for you so they can let you know when i’m free.

Thanks,

Is this the job IN MENTAL HEALTH? :D

Why did the battery going mean that you had to start destroying the laptop?

This person needs to go to prison. I'd have cried with rage if I received that

When the email starts with "As per my previous email..." you know that it's pure passive aggressiveness.

This person is truly a menace. I am not the only one that has suffered as a result of their passive aggressiveness, control freakery, pedantry and knack for making you feel like a complete moron, particularly in front of others.

It is especially pronounced for new starters. Myself and another colleague both just about managed to pull through the probation period (albeit with our confidence seriously damaged), but another person has started and left within six months. Private convos with them made it clear that their mental health suffered as mine had.

I actually brought it up recently with my current manager (who is LOVELY) because my experience starting that job was so nerve-wracking that it has made me feel like I need to be 100% on top of everything from day one in every new job since. I recall that on literally my third day, I was asked to put together a project plan. I did so, in a manner that had been standard in my previous role at a much smaller charity and they just turned to me and said “... you told us in your interview that you had done this before?”

Senior management at that organisation are aware of the problem as well. I would understand the complete inaction if this person was really amazing at their job but I really don’t think they are.

They sound like a bully who can only feel important by putting others down. Managing by patronising is not managing.

I'm certainly someone who thrives on praise and feels beaten up by "the stick". I find it a bit difficult to know when I'm just being sensitive. But really there's no excuse for being rude and patronising - everyone is there to work and everyone is trying their best, people tend not to TRY to do things wrong. Especially not clashing calendar invites

Oh and the "you told us you had done this before" comment is the most unhelpful shade ever. Some people just do things differently, doesn't make it wrong.

I mean, I think there is a way to handle people when they don’t know something or make an unintended mistake ... especially when they are brand new and quite honestly shouldn’t be expected to know everything anyway.

I prefer feedback as it is the best way to learn, and there is a way to give that directly without being a cunt. Certainly more useful than round-the-houses passive aggressive nonsense mostly designed to cover your own arse.

It's one thing saying something is NSFW, but a video of someone shooting their load is perhaps crossing the line a bit. I've raised this with the other mods for discussion. If they disagree with me then I'll hold up my hands up. Also, people saving this for their own wank bank just doesn't sit right with me. Just because someone posts something online doesn't give you the right to own it for yourself.

Now THAT'S an email. :disco:
