Paul Cattermole DEAD

"It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of our beloved son and brother Paul Cattermole," a statement from his family and the pop group said.

"Paul was found yesterday, 6th April 2023 at his home in Dorset and was pronounced dead later that afternoon."

The cause of death is unknown, the statement added.

"Dorset Police has confirmed that there were no suspicious circumstances. Paul's family, friends and fellow members of S Club request privacy at this time".

That brings a lot of its own issues though. It must be incredibly difficult to go from being a big pop star with a luxury lifestyle to skint. That must be very difficult to get your head around ALTHOUGH he was due to go back on tour with the group which would have made him a tidy sum I would have thought so it may not be suicide.
 
Probably not the time but that’s a really simplistic position to take on mental health and suicide specifically
 
They barely made a penny out of S Club. The others must have just grafted harder/ married better to keep themselves afloat.

I do wonder how he felt about the reunion reaction. Everyone else was barely aged and half of Twitter were calling him out on his looks.
 
I was going to say he must be the first member of a notable 90s/00s UK pop group to pass and then I remembered Sarah. :(

If you are someone who deals with mental health issues you are counterbalancing the financial allure of cashing in on your previous fame with the pressure that comes with doing so. That may or may not be related. The timing feels relevant, but honestly it feels a bit gross to speculate.

This was my first thought, I wonder if he felt like he was under more scrutiny than the rest. It can’t help someone with established mental health issues to hear ‘doesn’t he look old?’ In reaction to something that was supposed to be positive news.

Hopefully it's nothing to do with his death but I do remember a video where he described himself as "a big nothing" or words to that effect. That would certainly suggest someone who was troubled.

No no, don’t worry. I work for a mental health organisation and have noticed since I started doing so that celebrity deaths that representatives tend not to mention cause of death when it is likely to be suicide. I understand why people don’t (stigma), but talking about it more openly is the very thing that can help to break down that stigma. So it’s all relative…

Yes. I wasn’t speculating and said it may not be suicide. No one knows if he had mental health issues but if he did then going from a big name to getting turned down from reality shows as he was now seen as not famous enough for a reality show but too well known to have a private life must be a difficult pill to swallow. 😞
 
I think under the circumstances, it's quite natural to speculate, as macabre it might be.

I never found out how a friend died a few years ago and that's been endlessy frustrating.

I did think it must have been really confronting being back on the press circuit for the reunion tour. He was always clearly the most uncomfortable with the lifestyle first time around, and left because S Club wasn't his thing creatively. It was fairly obvious he was only doing it now because his money situation was dire. He was likely not in the ideal physical shape for what would have been a routine-heavy tour. To have that and then receive all of the social media scrutiny on his looks, sat opposite six people who had seemingly coped better with everything... there is no way it could have been good for the self esteem.

I’m not on social media, so never came across any comments but do remember reading something on here about how he was getting slated for the way he looked. I do hope social media trolls didn’t contribute to this. :(
 
He was the best thing about the recent press stuff they did. Charming and enthusiastic when most of the others came off a bit robotic.

God I loved him so much in the dotmusic days. He was my numba one celebrity crush when I came out and for the few years around that time.

I have tickets to the tour but I dunno if I’ll go (if it even goes ahead) - it’ll just be so fucking sad.
