Pauline Collins, star of Shirley Valentine, dies aged 85

Her family said she died peacefully in her London care home having had Parkinson's for several years.

I only saw Shirley Valentine for the first time earlier this year.

But as I was just talking about Shirley Valentine today, when discussing films filmed in schools, as they used my school for the flashback scenes.

She played both Sam Briggs and Queen Victoria in Doctor Who. RIP.

I wonder if they’ll ever release the original cut of Shirley Valentine where she isn’t bizarrely dubbed making references to famed 80s Liverpool locations such as WALMART.

It’s odd, she was around for AGES but I was really surprised to see she was 85 when she died.

The last thing i remember her in was the film QUARTET with Maggie Smith and a few others - 2012

Some of that was filmed in Portsmouth. I was annoyingly away with work at the time as I was DESPERATE to hang about and meet DAME JOAN

The opening of it was filmed at BOSCOMBE PIER which amused me to know that DAME JOAN has set foot in BOSCOMBE.

Hmm annoyingly they’ve changed the title to a more grey pound friendly one (it was called “The Bitter End”) but it’s nice to see her in a proper film again

It's a much more marketable title.

I'll be very eager to watch it though as quite honestly I don't think she's a great actress. It would be quite outstanding if she finally proves it here.
