It’s because it’s not that good Dev. I never understand how people put so much time and money in to such self indulgent maudlin SHITE. It is constant in group to solo efforts. PEOPLE ARE DYING.
 
I agree with you Reet, I do find it strange that so much money is pumped into ex-band members in a post Take That/Spice Girls/1D world when clearly most aren’t going to do better than middling.

But not sure its in the same realm as people dying :D It’s just pop music I guess.
 
She does a lot of promo, interviews and all that which is great. It just feels like she doesn’t really give a shit and it’s more of a ‘well this is what my career is so I’ll do it :)’ that comes across in it all. Which likely isn’t fair, but there doesn’t seem to be any hunger or love for it, despite her very solid promo efforts.

where every single one of them got dropped as solo artists for much less! I've always found it so odd how the streaming era has tamed the music business and it has become a more forgiving place where artists are stuck in limbo releasing single after single to middling returns but never getting dropped.

I mean the artists do most of their own promo via social media or appearances and physicals cost next to nothing because they aren’t producing millions of them. Streaming is a low to no cost way of getting the music out. The labels are really getting off easy these days.
 
It's definitely the production - not sure what the BRIEF was for this campaign but they've got the whole sound wrong. There's nothing wrong with a bit of pop fluff (basically what Sabrina Carpenter is) if you bring the tunes and the personality and the strong production. She's lacking in all areas at the moment! And I really like her, and I love her voice...
 
Just seen this TikTok which shows the chorus is a copy/cover/whatever so no wonder it sounds so anonymous

 
I don’t hate any of her singles, but of all the Little Mix solo careers, hers feels the most like it’s being done out of some vague sense of obligation rather than any kind of creative impulse.

All of the others launched with something which either felt like a statement of intent, or at least had something to say about who they were or where they were trying to position themselves, however successful the result may have been.

She led with a bland song, calculated not to excite, but purely to be unimaginately inoffensive and make radio and Spotify playlists. That second single is possibly my favourite solo single by any of them, but particularly when looking at everything she has put out so far, she feels kind of incidental to it - there doesn't seem to be anything recognisable in it that I can pin a statement like 'this is Perrie' on it. So I don't feel any kind of investment or engagement with her.

Watching that GN episode now and her post-song interview is deeply embarrassing.
 
That's not too shabby, is it? I see Tears charted at #69. Although that didn't have the benefit of a high profile performance.

Is it likely to hold top 40 by end of the week?
 
It's already down to #34 on the full Monday midweeks so almost certainly not.
 
I have this say, plagiarism aside, this one is digging its way into my psyche and I can see it possibly becoming a slow burner hit? The other ones I don't think I ever went back after my first curiosity listen.

I want to say similar? Early-mid 30’s?

This is still #2 on iTunes thanks to some promo today, but I can’t imagine it’ll hold top 40. Perhaps #50 or so at best?

It had The One Show perf but I don't think on release week

It's a cute song and the (stolen) chorus sticks, but I don't feel the urge to play it on repeat.
 
I've been (actively) listening to this song a lot and I just let out a scream after finding out it flopped (52-OUT!) , I love being late to the party.

Yes, it sounds like she found it in Dua Lipa's Future Nostalgia leftovers bin but my god it bangs. could have benefitted from being less repetitive during the last minute though. Her discography so far mirrors this decade's new Amelia Lilly :disco:
