I'm always surprised Buzzjack still exists

My memory might admittedly be hazy. But I recall it was entirely funded by a coder who themselves didn't actively post or engage, but always had grand plans to develop beyond the forum into a general music site à la Dotmusic.

Clearly that's not happened in 20 years, so lord knows why the poor fellow is still paying the hosting costs just to be met with SHEER INGRATITUDE from the likes of Jark.

Their ASFM has 60 players every month!
 
It wasn’t called ASFM in the beginning but yes. It was called the One Song Contest. I think it morphed and evolved (quite correctly) into ASFM during my absence prior to lockdown.

The original format ended in about 2012 and then was revived during lockdown. Kala wanted to run it, but to be honest it wasn't quick enough. So I revamped it with videos and avatars etc.

HE WASN'T HAPPY.

I remember we had to send mp3s. And it couldn't be a top 75 hit.

It was definitely called A Song for Moopy long before lockdown.

Loved the re-vamp better though. Maybe not the 'must have Spotify' rule though.

I dislike the way they run it which is why I've never bothered to join. Everyone has their own made up country or whatever which is cringe when they constantly mention them. Also everyone knows what your entry is. Semifinals of course. I'm sure there were more things wrong with it.
 
The MP3 thing was such a faff. Just download 20 songs and then rank them. Or drunkenly watch 40 videos with online gays over lockdown.

EASY ANSWER.

Then in 2007 Strebor did ‘Unknown Pleasures’ based on funky’s contest. Unfortunately, it died before the results were given out.

Then in 2008, Strebor did ‘Unknown Pleasures’ again. Unfortunately, it died before the results were given out.

The first A Song For Moopy came in 2008, organised by Star, funky, Strebor, Raucous Bitch and Madison with a shared account. That one did actually have a result, with Strebor winning with a song called “I Told Her On Alderaan”.

The ASFM account did contests all the way up to ASFM VII in 2014, which Johnkm won with “Circles”.

So Kala was basically honoring tradition of not having a results show all along. Poor guy can't catch a break sometimes.

This was one of mine! 😍 I remember it scandalously flopping in a pre-final Andrea Chansen round, which was the best I'd ever done before I eventually fluked a win in ASFM a couple years ago. I discovered it off a FIFA soundtrack back when I was the biggest str8-acting lad on Moopy.

You’ve a better memory than me! I would never have guessed it started that early - that was only 2 years into moopy’s birth.
 
You know you truly exist on the fringes of Moopy when you (still) don't know what ASFM actually is.
 
Moopy Mixtape was my entry into the fray. Sending CDs in the post for blind review - this was pre-Spotify, of course. Padded bag optional.
