Konnie Huq managing to piss off every judge, the acts and the audience in her incredible one-season run hosting the Xtra Factor is one of my highlights.

I'm also the only person who still thinks about Alexandra Burke ascending, Christ-like, to the next astral plane during her heart-stopping performance of The Silence.

It's pretty funny to watch this back after she co-wrote that Black Mirror episode, I like to imagine she hated every minute and vowed to bring the show down from the inside. I love when she tries to apologise to Dannii for the "eye off the ball" line but just accuses her of being hostile. (5:31-5:56)

It's even more repulsive than I remember. That you can see his mind trying to work out how he's going to respond to her for about 30 seconds is one thing. That it's in defence of Christopher Maloney is something else entirely.

I hate the concept of Sauron Cowell more, but Gary was my least favourite judge by miles, what a preening, smug arsehole.

Thinking back, The X Factor was always funny when it was basically the dumbest show on TV, but the bizarre tone shifts to the very serious moments when it was all worthy and Help For Heroes made me want to scratch my eyes out.
 
The week when this was the biggest story in the country gave me an early pointer towards the shining light of Maoist-Third-Worldism. Killing in the Name is a way better song and definitely deserved to be #1, but thinking back to the time when stuff like this felt important to anyone feels so odd.

 
That bit where the plane crashed into the studio killing everyone.

Dermot really wasn’t a good presenter was he?

I think half of the Britney problem (I didn’t think she was that bad) was that he talks so bloody fast, I could barely catch him. I dare say with the screeching loons in the audience it doesn’t help
 


Little Mix doing Don't Let Go (first time or finale reprise) - so epic, still something they've comprehensively failed to live up to in their career since
 
I still can't believe they destroyed Fleur's career, especially after the Bruno Mars cover version of this was so successful.

 
Oh memories! I didn’t remember Rachel Hylton’s performance being so dire. Simon’s face is a picture throughout. Howling at her soundbites too: “Come on everybody!”... “Thank you it’s been taken on board.”

My friends and I always re-enact Whitney’s false start if we ever hear the Million Dollar Bill remix played out.

Uptown Funk is in my top 3 contestant performances, no question.
 
The Uptown Funk perf is probably my favourite ever. She felt, more than even Leona & Alexandra (who are obviously better singers), a ready made popstar

I agree, it was a genuine moment.
 
That she gave that performance and the public STILL voted for Ben Haenow speaks volumes.
 
It probably secured her a place in the final, but I would say she probably peaked too soon.
