I'm staying with mine this weekend. My mother is not exactly somebody with a taste for pop's DEEP CUTS, but we somehow ended up discussing Erasure tonight and she mentioned that this is one of her all-time favourite songs.

 
My dad (Favourites: Deep Purple, Yes) and my Mum (Bob Dylan, Tina Turner) both loved early Gaga and bought The Fame Monster entirely independently of me.

 
Oh yes, my mum absolutely RINSED Poker Face when it came out which I remember finding a bit surprising.
 
My Dad’s music taste always leaned VERY GAY, the only albums I remember him having growing up were Queen, Madonna and Abba, he’s always been OBSESSED with O Superman as well, to the point it was his ringtone for YEARS.
 


I remember them buying Confessions on a Dancefloor back in 2005 :disco:

I struggle with individual songs for my mum. She owned Believe, Back to Black, Golden and Bedtime Stories, but that's as much as we crossover. She's mostly into Radio 2 soul and Motown.

My father got me into ABBA and Blondie. The only songs of recent years I know he likes are Chasing Cars and Sex on Fire, sadly not the Clubland versions.

Alas he'd forgotten about said songs last time we talked about music.
 
My Dad's taste is far less interesting to me. He loves Santana, so the closest our tastes came to intersecting was when he randomly asked me to download this DULL SHAKIRA FLOP for him

 
My parents have generally reasonable music tastes, that pretty much halt from about 1985.

However, my Dad likes Pink in the weirdest divergence from anything else, so have this.

Dad took me to see Dolly live when I was 19.

He hates Me and Little Andy though so he's a bit of a fake fan.
 
You can add my 69 year old mum to the list of huge Gaga fans. She absolutely adores her.

I also got my mum big time into Madonna. Something To Remember is one of her favourite albums.

that’s such a weird coincidence, my mum doesn’t really move in any similar circles musically with me, but she had the album with this on it, and we sometimes listened to it together to spite Dad

I always try to remember this for when we have the gay conversation and I can claim she made me gay via Erasure :)

I don’t really have any good ones, they are both firmly planted pre-1990. But my mum did have a weird impulse buying period in the early 00s, which results in the Shaggy It wasn’t me album, and Mel C’s Reason
 
I don’t even think my Dad likes music all that much. He’s got the typical credible stuff from his era on record like the Stones, Dylan, Hendrix and Pink Floyd. He saw the Rolling Stones in concert a few times in the 60s and once in the 90s. Can’t think of any other instances of him expressing a liking for music.
 
So me and my mum bonded over music in 1995, she separated from my dad and although it was rough we have good memories of the crazy hot summer and always being in the garden with the radio blasting. Anyway I made her a playlist because we often talk about the songs from that radio hits from that era and how memorable they are... she absolutely loves it!

My Dad is a huge music fan. He likes Floyd, Beatles, Dire Straits, Peter Gabriel, and a few others, but mostly he was into old soul. He's the reason I'm into black music, I was basically raised on the origins of the music. He was such a purist though - hated motown, disco, modern funk. I like all R&B music but even today he's stuck in his ways apart from a few tracks here and there (he loves Prince). But you can't knock someone for loving Otis Redding, Sam Cooke, Wilson Pickett, Bobby Womack and Sam & Dave. It really was the best musical education!

My dad's not really a POP gal. He got me to download Lou Reed - Take a Walk on the Wild Side for him off Limewire, which is kind of CAMP.

I honestly envy people who got their taste in music from their parents. Mum was just in to Cliff Richard and Freddie and the Dreamers etc. Not sure where I got my love of black music from because it certainly wasn’t them.

yeah I know what you mean, my parents are almost 40 years older than me so there’s a huge musical gulf. But I do have a soft spot for 50s stuff because of my dad.

as far as I can gather, my mum liked Elvis and dad liked the Beatles, but I don’t really remember being exposed to them much, it’s a weird blind spot for me.

but I did like Fleetwood Mac’s Tango in the night, and Chris de Burgh’s GH :basil:
 
I genuinely don't know if my parents influenced my taste in music or not, and I have often pondered it.

I went on a lot of car journeys that involved Elvis Costello, Talking Heads, Squeeze, Van Morrisson and the Beautiful South. My dad claims Queen are his favourites and mum claims she saw the Clash in the 70s, but those were never played.
 
My dad, who has not championed any music my entire life really, loves Shania Twain.

My mom likes the predictable stuff like Beatles, Carol King, and most recently, Maroon 5 :eyes:
 
I watched the Hips Don’t Lie video with my dad once and he tried to engage me in a conversation about how hot shakira is?

he also likes Oh What A Night by Frankie Valli. My mom likes Carol king, Diana Ross, and Donna summer, but her favorite is probably Melissa Manchester.
 
My Dad was into jazz and gospel but his one foray into popular music was that he inexplicably loved Boney M. Every Christmas Eve he’d demand we put Nightflight to Venus on the stereogram. I like to think it’s where I get it from.
 
Oddly enough, my classical music loving father was always a fan of Missy Elliott's Get Ur Freak On.

My mum, being a more basic bitch, stans I Wanna Dance With Somebody and Step by Step by Whitney Houston.

Oh my mum was big into Gloria Estefan and Celine Dion when I was really young, but that feels pretty PAR FOR THE COURSE for a late 80s/early 90s housewife.

There's a video of 3 year old VoR riding naked on a tricycle screaming along to this at the top of my lungs which is forever brought up as a potential form of blackmail.
