Had cats all my adult life, it has always been street cats that I either took in, or looked after. Both boys and girls, I find boys tend to be a bit more child-like in the sense of over-trusting and neediness and girls more independent and weirdos and fascinating and I tend to bond better with the later. And them with me as well. But aside from this basic trend, no cat has the same personality with another, each comes with their own. They are extremely expressive species and have excellent communication skills both with humans and fellow cats and I've come to understand them very well by now, the mannerisms, the sounds and everything. Many times my bf asks why did she do this? What now? And I realize that somehow most of the time I know the answer. Currently having two, a boy and a girl (siblings) that we carry along between the city and the island. When we are in the city we can't risk letting them out in the balcony so they stay indoors, when we're on the island we let them out mostly as they please on the condition that if we're off to go swimming or shopping or to bed they need to get in. We get rewarded with alive mice, grasshoppers and lizards on a daily basis so we are always alert when they return so that they don't bring their new friends inside. Other than ours, we take care of a tiny black female and a sleepy tuxedo male that seem to like being in our yard most of their time. But we have set up shelters for cats to sleep if they want, and cushions and there's always food and water in the yard so we get occasional new visitors now and then. The pain of losing a cat is heart-ripping and caring for a sick cat can be physically, emotionally and in some cases financially exhausting and many times you'll find yourself thinking that it's the last time am taking a cat in. But as soon as the tiredness wears off you have a new cat without realising it or without having had the time to heal first. But cats are excellent healers to help you with the trauma. Anw that's enough with my morning rambling.
