And if people want to worship this particular family that’s great for them and I wish them all the best, freedom of religion is so important. But in my opinion the most important change required now is for a parliament and a government to be elected on the basis of proportional representation
 
Well I just hope Charlie gets his Maths GCSE in time to land a job at McDonalds when the revolution happens.
 
I think it's a very small proportion of the population that actually worships them. For many others, opinions exist on a spectrum which range from indifference to mild intolerance (sort of like the frustration you feel when you have a small pebble in your shoe). And then obviously, there are the staunch anti-monarchists.
 
The most popular google entry the day of her death was "do we get a day off for the queens funeral"

It was the first thing we all talked about at work when it was announced.

I guess indifference is the correct word here.
 
Two of my aunties always claimed to be anti monarchists and always had something to say about the wealth and the imperialsm and they're currently on the group chat talking about tears and emotions and pride and so on.

I think this sums up how I feel about them, to be honest. I don't particularly like the idea of them but I can't imagine Britain without them. Plus, our political system is nowhere near strong or stable enough to allow for a transition into a republic anytime soon. Now we're out of the EU, there's a comfort to knowing there's still a higher power, even if purely ceremonial, than the dickheads running the country.
 
They cancelled Radio 2 live in Leeds. Presumably because of expiation.
 
On the royal family ~discourse~ front, in the space of a decade I've gone from being a monarchist with a collection of semi-ironic ROYAL MUGS (based on my love of the history of it all, and slightly camp older women), to someone who's realised that we will still have the history of it all, but should 100% abolish a nonsense system that is so obviously unfair and has no place in a healthy society.

And if you feel they should remain in place then you're nothing more than a simpering little bootlicker :evil:

but is it really a comfort, when you know that the royal family have no power? Had the Queen done the right thing and slapped Boris Johnson (on camera) after partygate then my opinion would be different :disco:

They do have power! It is a fallacy to say otherwise.

Most directly they can amend and refuse legislation that affects land owned by the crown.
