I think each country has a plan for if the monarch dies there, where that capital receives them before moving on to London (if not in England already). But I don't think many monarchs since the union have died outside England.

My favourite thing is seeing the republicans (and atheists, mostly) being part of this process. Our presiding officer (speaker) is a republican too, and it tickles me.

Does make me sad this didn't happen under Labour, I'd love to know if there would be any differences in how things were working, particularly on the coronation side rather than the funeral.

I've just realised the date of the coronation will partly be dictated by when Eurovision is held.
 
I see Aldi are closing all their shops across the UK for the funeral. I don't think others are doing the same, just limiting hours.

Most of the shops, restaurants etc in Cowes are closing.

I havent set foot in a wetherspoons for months.

Plus I'll be at home watching the funeral.
 
I'm just catching up. I'm guessing Andrew is just wearing normal clothes as he was stripped of all his titles? The other children are all in their military gear.
 
There is a certain art to how a TV station can fill 24 hour coverage on one topic. At least with Diana there was the whole whodunnit soap opera. It’s not like we haven’t all seen 35 documentaries and dramas about The Queen’s life.

Patrick Harvie's speech was interesting, trying in the politest possible way to say that Monarchy is awful at the end there and should be done away with.
 
Even I've stopped watching the constant stream of Queen related news. The day she died, and the day after, I watched it. I've seen snippets of her journey around the UK. That'll do until the funeral.

I guess the pressure is on Tesco, Asda and Morrisons now. The public mood has surely been gauged by now.

I don't know about that specifically, but I did read that GP's are allowed to close, which when we're waiting weeks for appointments, I think is pretty outrageous.
 
Surely cancelling cancer ops can't be true :o that's disgusting if it is.

My friend works for a doctor's surgery and yeah they are all closing. Patients won't be happy.
 
From a worker's rights perspective, they're obviously entitled to the extra day off as well. But what I don't get is why they didn't just add it to their leave allowance so it could be taken at another point in the year without causing disruption to existing appointments.

Is it? There’s loads of people replying afterwards saying their medical procedures had been cancelled (admittedly, I didn’t go into too much detail and I didn’t see a cancer one…)
 
Vaccine clinics are still going ahead as normal at our trust, so you’d assume/hope cancer/other major ops would..
 
Thats incredibly sinister. I seriously hope it isn't.

Like others, random bits on social media has been my main source of news about The Queens death, but when I occassionally take a peak at mainstream news or things that are being flat out postponed/cancelled im really quite taken aback by the subtle implication that life should be on hold.

Let those who are genuinely sad be sad and those who don't care(provided they're are not being arsheoles about the passing of someones mum, grandmother etc) get on with their lives in the way that they would if 98 year old DORIS down the street met her maker.

The media does feel quite conditioning in implying how I/you/we should feel.

The coverage is repetitive and they ran out of things to say some time ago.
