It would have been fucking madness. That said it probably would have been trash. Moopy deals with celebrity death was a degree of class and sophistication that dotmusic NEVER HAD.

I've just been fingering through the Michael Jackson thread. If that is class and sophistication I dread to think what dotmusic was like.
 
Can we actually TALK about how THE FUCK he was still driving in 2019? He was like the walking dead from at least 2010. A new rule must be brought in FOR ALL to retake a test when they hit a certain age. I know where I live we have lots of wealthy people in their 90’s constantly crashing in to parked cars then trying to DRIVE OFF.

They only have to do medicals and re-testing for HGV or vocational licenses. Other than that after 70 you just fill out a form to declare you are fit every few years and it gets renewed :manson:
 
I feel so disconnected to people over this - even on Moopy there are lil royalist lovers popping up here and there. It’s gone beyond paying respects to a woman who did her controversial job with dignity, and descended into an episode of Are You Afraid of the Dark?

 
I’m very confused over all of this. Just had two of my colleagues saying they’re having a party on Monday to “celebrate” - they’re both British born but one of Jamaican heritage and the other of Dutch/Irish ancestry, citing this as a reason. I just think it’s a bit short-sighted.

Sometimes I think it's more about what she represented to people.

When M*rrissey wrote "The Queen Is Dead", it was neither a threat nor a prediction; he was using her as a symbol of a specific version of 'society' that he rightly identified was collapsing. Now, we would come to learn that Moz would essentially blame this collapse on immigration which is a disgrace. But what's clear to me is that this is a mourning not just for her but for a disappeared past of which she was the figurehead.

Yes and a lot of them LIE with no thought to everyone else on the road in danger.
 
I walked past the queue the other night and the scariest thing of it all is that them queueing were NORMALS and not the usual FLAG-WAVING MORONS. The HORROR of it all.
 
Moopy is ultra cynical. She was genuinely very well loved by the vast majority of Brits. I think more's the point people like being part of something.

I was upset when I first heard it, and I'm not ashamed to say it. I'm utterly over it now and gasping for it to be over. I'm just here for the memes and celebrities at the funeral.

I think the longest I have queued was to enter Glastonbury for quite a few hours, and that was only bearable because I could get fucked while doing it. I am not a queuer.

This is where I share Suomi's disconnect though - because amongst my friends, family and colleagues I don't know anyone who is bothered. The only talk I've heard is about the bank holiday or things being closed because of it.

It's been a big thing in the office but only because everyone was wanging on about whether or not we were getting Monday off.
 
I will say, I imagine there's a lot of people out there who are sad who did meet her. She did more meet and greets than a Drag Race alum.
 
Ugh, our director has at the very last minute said that we can work Monday and claim a different day off in lieu if we want. No notice to managers who would have to arrange system support and supervision depending on who says yes to that offer. Just leave it alone. She must have had complaints and questions from annoying people.

I'd agree with the first part of this. I wouldn't describe myself as pro monarchy but I was saddened by the news, primarily because of the loss of someone seemingly so omnipresent and constant in our collective lives. Were the queues not so atrociously long, I wouldn't be averse to observing something, historically at least, the like of which we are unlikely see again, at least not to this scale.

This really isn't just about the Queen. Moopy can be so judgemental at times.
