RANDOM THINGS YOU HATE

Also shout out to the lady with 8 food allergies (“I won’t die I just can’t have, dairy, gluten, garlic, grains, mustard, nightshades or shellfish”) who I spent 15 minutes with reconfiguring 2 dishes so she could eat something, then had the audacity to complain about the price of the dish when the bill came because she’d asked for half the ingredients to be removed.
 
Had some rather terrible service in an Indian restaurant on Friday.

We ordered and the waitress said it would be “just a minute”. We jokingly muttered “we hope not”, as it would be a bit suspect if the food came out straight away. Half an hour later we’d not got the order despite other tables arriving at the same time having got theirs. When she approached our table we said “we hope it won’t be too long”, and she misheard and snapped back “YOU SAID YOU DIDN’T WANT POPPADOMS” :manson:

Even if we were now asking for poppadoms, considering we’d been waiting half an hour and we’re hungry, it would be a reasonable request.

Food came 10 minutes later and was fine but they forgot one of the sides we ordered. Instead of just saying “I’m sorry, I didn’t write that down, we’ll get that to you in a moment” which would be perfectly reasonable, they got defensive and yelled “I READ THE ORDER BACK TO YOU”, which she did very quickly but in a strong accent, so whatever, we didn’t catch it and didn’t notice.

Then the water jug on the table that they brought was seriously leaking and we had a flood on the table. Instead of quietly apologising, wiping up the water and bringing another, a waiter got a couple of tissues and soaked up a minimal amount, and we had to ask for the leaky jug to be removed.

Food was nice though, but we didn’t leave a tip.
 
People who reassure themselves after every sentence that they make. I’m not sure if I am wording it correctly but an example would be

“It’s a beautiful day, so it is” or “I wish you the very best, so I do”.

I GOT THE FUCKING SENTIMENT FIRST TIME, AND WHY ARE YOU AGREEING WITH YOURSELF YOU ABSOLUTE PSYCHO?

And this is exactly why we need to do away with waiters taking an order and order via app/, phone etc!

I wonder if maybe the issue is more when people say things like “do you know what I mean?” rather than, say, a whole country :D

I thought that was quite a common thing in Ireland?

Around here, people will often say 'I do' or 'I have' at the end of a sentence - 'I've been looking everywhere I have', 'I really like that I do'.

Mind you, they also pronounce certificate as 'sestificate' which does piss me off a bit.

Despite being pretty guilty of it myself, it really winds me up.

Though the worst offender is a "do you remember?" whacked on at the end of what could have been a perfectly acceptable statement.

It is and I can’t be doing with it anymore. Having lived away from Ireland for the past 30ish years I now find it RATHER ANNOYING. It was actually a Scottish lady who stopped to speak to me this morning when I was taking my son to school that said it and it really riled me. Maybe it was her saying it in her Scottish accent.
 
People who use “Imma” to mean “I’m going to”, unless you’re from somewhere where that’s part of the dialect.

Thought it was weird when Lady Camden used it in her song verse, and annoying when rich white girl used it on Hawkeye
 
I first realised when somebody in a job interview replied softly, "yes, I know what you mean." Thank you for the confirmation, Sue, you've got a good heart.
 
I always associated 'so you are' etc with the Irish. Specifically Jim McDonald in Coronation Street.

I associate the 'I do' or 'I have' with the Welsh.

As far 'sestificate' is concerned, the number of those I had to deal with in all my years working on sickess/invalidity/incapacity benefit, I don't think many people here can say that word properly either. Locally they make it 'serstificate', though.

I'm guilty of this although my usage of it is limited and designed to highlight my lack of connection to modern culture (i.e. "Imma pour myself some Irn Bru Extra and throw on some Nurse With Wound"). I am from Glasgow, however, where "I'm" is often spelt "ahm".
 
“Netflix recommends” which are almost always things you’ve put on your list that are in no way similar to the thing you just watched. No, *I* recommend that to myself bitch
 
I’m sure I’ve said this but it bears repeating.

Podcasts are are inaudible at max volume as soon as you leave a soundproof room. What exactly DO podcast editors DO? I guess they cut things out but on some podcasts I can’t imagine WHAT given all the dreck that makes it through. And sound levels?!

My ON/OFF button is where my DELETE key should be and I keep pressing it by mistake and putting my laptop into sleep mode :argh:
 
Pausing my iPhone podcast with the remote clicker thing on my headphones, but pressing it again to restart and it just summons Siri even though I switched it off
