"Reality Check" - ANTM/Tyra Banks Documentary

I downloaded the 'You Wanna Be On Top' audiobook by Cycle 9's Sarah Hartshorne just before Christmas. It's quite good, although I'd have preferred it as half hour podcast episodes.

Surprised she was allowed to use that title, as well...
 
This should be good! I'm seeing the tide turning against the constant faux outrage of something very of its time and settling into more honest retrospective territory so I do hope it isn't just sensationalistic soundbite grabbing and something more informative and behind he scenes-y.

Speaking of, I still need to the read the book @jyxz sent me that one of the contestants wrote and self published. It is by all accounts pretty much exactly that. I wonder if she's involved in the documentary at all, as she seems very willing to discuss it and promote herself.

I discovered it via a long YouTube video with some female photographer, whose other videos did tend towards the 'I can't believe how awful it was', but the video with her was a lot better, and the book more measured again.

Can’t wait. we’ve heard a bit from all the girls and male judges interviewed (at least in that trailer) but Tyra hasn’t said anything about it until now so it will be essential viewing. Although something tells me Tyra only agreed to this if certain people weren’t part of it, like Janice, Paulina, Adrianne (C1) and Lisa (C5) for starters.
 
I'm here for Jay trying to throw Tyra under the bus (when he was worse). I think Miss Jay will walk away unscathed - they're already winning in the trailer anyway. I'm certainly rooting for Tyra, but this will probably go every way possible.

Janice Dickinson will get her say on the Next Top Model episode of Dirty Rotten Scandals when it airs 11 March. Too bad it's already been recorded as it would be great to have her respond to it (maybe she'll do so if she does promo on things like The One Show, Graham Norton and Vanessa).
 
Well Janice and Lisa sound like the better viewing experience!
 
Well I for one hope there are heaps of contradictory accounts. Bring on the Janice soundbites, but the non Netflix girls are already posting their dissatisfaction and that's probably where the real juice will be. Given the timing of the Dirty Rotten Scandals episode, imagine if we get a 3rd documentary where the contestants respond to the Netflix one with full benefit of the recent Tyra narrative re-claim.

Silver snake Jay and Nigel are trying to put it all on Tyra. Honestly, they were equally as vile. Remember that episode where a model joked about him having a rod up his ass or something? The way he reacted was crazy.

I mean that was an overreaction but it’s not like he put them in blackface like Tyra and Jay. Although Jay says he didn’t have a choice and Tyra assured him he wouldn’t have to play into it. But Nigel was never really part of the creative or production, aside from when he personally photographed them.
 
I think, much like anything else pop culture related, it’s of its time. Were there terrible things being done… yes. Was it entertaining as hell… yes.

Obviously we frown upon things like this now but it’s hard to go back and villainize the show for giving people what they were eating up at the time.
