"Reality Check" - ANTM/Tyra Banks Documentary

I didn’t realise there were multiple episodes either.

I didn’t get on board with ANTM till season 3, so these early girls don’t mean much to me.

That gang up on Ebony was nasty though

The producer guy saying "that one I regret" about the shooting photoshoot, all the while with a smirk appearing on his face.

Oh and now the switching ethnicities. At last something easy to process.

Finished. Yeah, Tyra was banking on that being enough to wipe the slate clean for a re-boot. It's impossible not to want to watch this much high camp sociopath, but the hot potato throwing between she and Jay Manuel was something to be studied.

Miss Jay when saying "not yet" though. What a fabulous man.

She came off horribly for the whole thing. Her introducing it by saying “I haven’t spoken about the controversies… until now” and then repeatedly punting every topic that put her in a bad light was cowardly and just bad PR. Especially with the Jay feud- her saying no comment then “I owe him a call”, bitch you had 20 years. Thankfully there was Danielle, Shandi, that social media personality, and a few others that let her have it. Tyra clearly didn’t get any say in the final product because she came off terribly.

I was pleased the Jays were slightly more candid, but why are they still protecting Tyra by not revealing the full rant against Tiffany. Now was the time! Hopefully the other doc is more revealing in that respect. They also glossed over all the seasons after C6. The first cycles were obviously the peak but would’ve liked maybe another episode about the next ten cycles

Yes it's worth it. Yes it's stuff we've heard before but from POV's we haven't seen before (namely, Tyra's).

It was enjoyable. The editing did a LOT of heavy lifting, placing soundbites in certain positions to make certain parties look bad, but hey, that's exactly what ANTM did to the contestants when the show was airing! I would have liked more contestants and less overly woke journalists who were barely out of nappies when the show began, but it was enjoyable.

I found the ending with Miss J VERY emotional. Such a trooper.

Sarah (C9) did an interview regarding her time on the show and some of the body image issues. An interesting listen:

She's done loads over the years including her own book, so I'm surprised she wasn't approached to do this. Especially for her story as a plus size contestant who was chastised for her weight on the show! Pure documentary fodder I'd have thought.

I’m guessing they thought Keenya covered that issue for the doc, but I agree she would’ve been a good addition.

Sarah just seems a lot more confident in front of the camera and is a lot more coherent than some. I really like her.

This is the video I referred to earlier in the thread. I'm only about 25 minutes into the one POP! has posted above, which is arguably a better interview - this one is a little more salacious and in line with all the 'I can't believe how awful Tyra was' videos which surfaced over the last couple of years.

I need more Twiggy reveals. Sarah said she got a very kind edit. She also never really had anything good to say about any of the contestants of color.

This channel used to be great. She's a professional photographer and would comment on the shoots from that point of view, but it soon slipped into faux outrage at everything. She's a good interviewer though so the videos she's done with other contestants are worth a watch.

"An NDA hates to see me coming because..."

*SHARP CUT*

Yes, I've seen a few of them. In a way I think it's a shame she didn't do Sarah a lot earlier. By this stage she'd long since succumbed to the worst aspects of content creators over making actually insightful videos.

Clearly Sherri missed the part where a girl was unable to consent to having sex. On camera. With footage edited out only because of Janet Jackson's nipple. And have it labelled as her cheating on her boyfriend. Bye Sherri.

Don’t forget her being coy and shaming her the next day to look like a big sister on camera “this one guy cheated on me in Paris… oh, Shandi did you get cheated on too? Oh you cheated.” And then her pretending she had no idea during the doc

The Dionne stuff re: her mother being paralyzed by gunshot , and then having her pose as being shot and paralyzed waist down, was super upsetting too, and probably the only new revelation on this doc. I know they talked about the mom a couple episodes later but I never put the two together.

As an aside Dionne looks better now than she did then (Ebony and Danielle looked amazing too)

Sherri talking about staying on the air probably the more likely source of her upset given her contract runs out in the Fall and hasn't been re-newed. No mention of Wendy staying on the air so long though and how that team quickly threw her aside... how curious.

In the middle of this right now and Tyra's reaction to all the shit she put the contestants through is exactly like Naomi's to her in that interview they did together where she clearly couldn't remember any of the shit Tyra was accusing her of doing to her. :disco:

It's kinda giving that 2024 JLo delusion. I think in her head she thought this was gonna be 'her year'.
