Relisten #2: Rhythm of Love & Let’s Get To It - 19/10/20 19:30

Back in the old days when I used to go out to G-A-Y LATE (:zombie: ) my friend Alex (RIP) and me would get in there really early and stock up on our songs on the jukebox. WHAT KIND OF FOOL was his Kylie song of choice. Always reminds me of him & dancing to it wildly with him whilst everyone gave us strange looks. :( :disco:
 
I have a bit of an exclusive with that TOTP clip: my cousin was on camera. :o
 
I'm on the No Tech No Logical mix of WKOF, which is essentially just an old fashioned extended mix. It fucking SLAPS HARD.
 
I realise that WCOF gets all the love now but it was seen as a bit of a step back at the time.

I remember lots of reviewers and the like latching onto the “heard all that before” line

It was a step back, in terms of sounding more like early Kylie SAW. But when late Kylie SAW sounded limp, who cares now?
 
Attention Things Can Only Get Better fans - it is a slightly remixed version on the What Kind Of Fool single. It's got extra twiddly bits and punches harder.

Sorry to have missed this! I'm sure you would have all LOVED my decidedly muted response punctuating the gay hyperbole and ruining the fun, but alas I had a prior engagement with a casserole.

I shall endeavor to have a quick re-listen to these albums and report back with a quick rate, because I know you're all desperate to know how a middle aged rubbish gay views retro Kylie in 2020. Gimme a sec...
 
Oh look, and there's even instrumental and backing track versions, if anyone needed them in the future for something. Like entering a online chat lounge singing competition or the like.

Slightly scizophrenic record with Kylie (or maybe SAW/PWL) clinging on to the 80s while simultaneously trying to embrace the changing face of 90s music. On the latter, she really excels for me, but I was so invested in music in this era that I appreciate any 80s stars attempt to evolve their sound and mimic the trends of the era

The album is mix of SAW and Madonna’s early writers/producers so any American influence comes from them and not PWL.

Well I don't think I've ever listened to this album before, at least not for a very long time, and it's ALL OVER THE PLACE. I'm hearing attempts at Dee-Lite, Kim Appleby, Lisa Stansfield, Madonna, Janet Jackson, and then 2 very dubious influences in Color Me Badd (the title track - WTF even though that sound has high school nostalgia for me) and 2 Unlimited in the closing track, again WTF. Pick a lane, Kylie. Although I think she did after this album, and it worked for her, even if the wider public didn't think so. I'd very much like to be there for the next 2 albums, her finest era for me.
 
Right when’s the next one of these? I’m going to get caught up before then!
