Relisten #3: Kylie Minogue & Impossible Princess - 21/10/20 19:00

Kylie Minogue was actually meant to be DANCEKYLIE.
Well there definitely are dance moments in there (Where Has the Love Gone, Time Will Pass You By, Where is the Feeling etc.) but overall it's more SophistcatedKylie and one can't deny the sultriness of Automatic Love, Surrender and If I Was Your Lover.

Ugh I think it may well be my 2nd favourite Kylie album ever.

Which reminds me - when are we doing Light Years? Surely from here on out each album will be a single bill?

I mean, I could even stan for Love Is Waiting given a few glasses of something cheap.

She was literally the face of every cool publication at the time.

I sold The Kylie Bible from Dazed & Confused for a few hundred quid on eBay a few years ago - and to think it was a freebie supplement!

I've still got The Kylie Bible somewhere. It's gone a bit yellow, though.

It’s actually a really good song. I found it a bit meh until a few years ago. Her vocals are really strong on it.

Steve Anderson’s favourite apparently.

Fuck me, he is selling some of her I-D mags for £100 quid a piece. I flogged them as part of a big job lot for about £150.

Poor Steve. But then he’s used to Kylie celebrating the most pointless of birthdays so perhaps he realised she was SPENT by that point.

She is beyond stunning here. I remain as obsessed with this song's basking sense of content today as I was then.

The thumbnails this TFI uploads channel are choosing is just ridiculously jarring.

The band are terrible though - letting the keyboard carry the weight of it's instrumental melody doesn't do its guitar thrust glory any justice.

I remember not liking that performance at all when I was younger because I thought the vocal was weak. You're right though, the band ruin it - what is that keyboard? - urgh! No strings. The musical accompaniment sounds a bit children's playschool.

I think I just loved how she looked and swaggered about a bit on stage. Plus it was a proper rock staging for it too.

Love this. Some Kind of Bliss remains a joy, she looks incredible, and that's Spider-Man's dad sat at the desk at the start :o

(Pleasantly surprised to find that he was actually born by this point)

Oh I used to fancy him so much.

This man. Who is sat at the desk. At the start.

I still cannot fathom how some kind of bliss missed the top 10, let alone the top 20. In the weeks leading up to its release it felt like a legit smash. She looked and acted so effortlessly cool and radio was backing her in a big way, also that video was spectacular *chef's kiss*. Number 22 was an insane result to be honest.
