the flamenco guitars DO make this arguably the most dated of her early 00s singles, but I really love the vibe. It's such a sweet song.

It’s just jarring.
 
Please Stay is another song that I really didn't like at first. It sounded so cheapo and generic back in the day. But I love it now!

I like “Please Stay” but it doesn’t add to the album for me, kind of like “Stars” on X, if that makes sense...
 
Please Stay was a bit of a dud of a single after the last two I remember thinking as a pre-gay 12 year old. I can see why they picked it though. It's produced lovely and is probably a bit more 'for everyone' than something like Disco Down would've been.

I also think “Please Stay” would work more as a haunting lower tempo ballad with the same Latin influence... like an updated version of “La Isla Bonita”
 
Bittersweet Goodbye is certainly the least necessary song on Light Years, a slightly jarring outlier and a slightly self indulgent moment of whatever. But it is very pretty, especially that "don't talk about the future now" line. And she's earned it after the previous eight BANGERS.

This album just doesn't need a ballad at all. I guess they felt that HAD to put one so it didn't end up being an exclusively gay disco album (remembering she was an exclusively gay popstar at this point). But in retrospect I would 100% get rid. It's not exactly a short album anyway, so we can afford to. :)

“Bittersweet Goodbye” is incredible for the middle eight alone. Perhaps one of the most beautiful moments she’s put to record for me.
