What has she done for us lately, etc.

I've listened to Loud and Talk That Talk as an appetizer and invite you all to do the same. "Man Down" and "Watch n' Learn" (what a BOP) were the highlights.

SEE YOU SOON

Exciting! I haven't listened to Unapologetic in years, but I remember liking it. Anti as well, but I've listened to it more consistently

I haven't listened to them in their entirety in a year or two, I think... I recall Unapologetic being the better album but Anti had some growers on it IIRC.

Anti wasn't what I (and I presume some of her other fans) wanted at the time, but it definitely did have some growers. Loud and Talk That Talk were more immediate, but I bet Anti has held up really well

I'm more of a Rated R and TTT kinda gal. Of course Unapologetic gave us Diamonds but never got into past the singles :(

Stanning for GGB and Loud goes without saying when I need some Basic Riri.

Do you not even bop to "Nobody's Business" or is it too problematic for us in 2020?

This is how I'd rank the albums (pre-re-listen)

1. Rated R
2. Unapologetic
3. Loud
4. Talk That Talk :shy:
5. Good Girl Gone Bad
6. Anti

Overall, I enjoy all of them to varying extents. I haven't listened to the first two albums enough to rank them. I remember a few cute album tracks ("Kisses Don't Lie" ?) though so maybe I will investigate.

Unapologetic/Anti are subject to change as I haven't listened to them in an age. I just remember Anti being VERY hit and miss.

oooh WHY NOT

1. Unapologetic
2. Anti
3. Loud
4. Rated R
5. Good Girl Gone Bad

6. Talk That Talk

the first 5 are all good to great, but I don't play any of them that often. there's not much between GGGB, Rated R and Loud. all are patchy but have huge highs. I think Loud is the most consistent of the 3 though. I was hugely obsessed with Rated R back in the day but some of the production these days feels quite dated and she's surpassed it artistically. it was growth at the time though. Talk That Talk is just... garbage. the definition of "2 hit singles in the bag, will this do?"

It IS a bop but just the thought she did this AFTER the beating makes me sick!

But then again, I recall happily bopping along to Turn Up The Music (Rihanna Remix) and Cake (Chris Brown Remix) :D :disco: they did love working together didn't they

1. Rated R.
2. Anti
3. Loud
4. Talk That Talk (though You Da One was NO SINGLE material)
5. Unapologetic
6. Good Girl Gone Bad (It's not bad by any means, I love it and it has some of my fave singles: Disturbia, Rehab, Don't stop the music but it feels so unlike her and we'll probably never have this Rihanna ever again)
7. A Girl Like Me (FILLER CITY :D but S.O.S. and Unfaithful are classics, Break It Off less so but still a bop)

I'm willing to change my mind however

my favourite track off GGGB, besides Don't Stop the Music, is the SHIMMERY BOP Push Up On Me :disco: that was a hot Ri fave for quite some time. I remember it played during my high school prom (that is my only memory of that night - the full bottle of Malibu I drank erased the rest (probably for the best)) and I (internally) QUEENED OUT!

Girls, I will have to move this to 9:30 pm. I need to provide coverage for a colleague this afternoon (my time). :zombie:

Push Up On Me

I think I last heard this in 2008 (yes I ranked without having heard the full abums in a long time) but omg it makes me want to be back in a gay bar dancing:(

oh I'm an hour early :D oops

I'd better go and watch some porn or something

Hated "Phresh Off the Runway" at first, QUITE LIKE IT NOW even though it is a bit of a RACKET

Its definitely not horrible... I am much more open to a tuneless banger than at the time

07 Phresh off the Runway

weird opener, used to hate it, don't mind it now but it certainly is NOISY.

find light in the beautiful sea
I CHOSE TO BE HAPPY

:disco:

YES!

I think "Diamonds" was the moment I realized, what I believed to be Rihanna's worst attribute, her voice, actually exudes something really special.

SO SHINE BRIIIIIIIIGHT
TONIIIIGHT
YOU. AND. I!

I prefer "Diamonds" to "We Found Love" as her best lead single these days...

I never hear Diamonds these days but it holds up and is unique in her back catalogue

Also I love the single cover her rolling a joint of diamonds

OK great song but let's not get CARRIED AWAY.
"We Found Love" has been imitated so much, and sounds a bit more "of its time" to me than "Diamonds", so it feels a bit less special to me, but I adore both obv.

Numb is a right DIRGE :D I forgot about that brief period where she was collabing and touring with Eminem. I seem to recall she drew awful reviews from that.

07 Phresh Off the Runway
10 Diamonds
06 Numb

sequencing has NOT been her strong suit in latter years.

We Found Love is just so joyous. IMO is has risen above being of its time
