Robbie Williams - Britpop

How much desire is there for him in UK and Europe in 2025? Cuz that cover seems a bit....self-indulgent?

It kind of affirms that he was probably a little AGGRIEVED when it was the fun-for-mums Angels that broke out instead of anything else from Life Thru A Lens.

"Robbie, give it up, it's time for the ballads"
"No wait, I'm SURE South Of The Border will smash!"

Ed Sheeran and Robbie Williams in the chart at the same time

What despicable behavior allowed this to ever happen

You can't have Britpop without cocaine Robbie, soz.

The album cover is a fun concept but executed so badly. He had a free account on Canva, a handful of stock images, and a dream.

agreed. I like the concept of the cover but it doesn't hang together at all. perhaps if it had been staged and shot for real and not edited cheaply after the fact.

and that is the beginning and end of my input on this new Robbie Williams album. hope @dUb loves it though

I'm reasonably sure I saw Kula Shaker and Robbie Williams at the same V festival.

Robbie was pre-Angels (I think) and still infinitely better than Kula Shaker. They were fucking dreadful and Crispin Mills was a cunt.

Be careful what you wish for.

Robbie Williams feat. Cast anybody?

Good point.

I was thinking maybe Bluetones, Lightning Seeds, Supergrass, etc, with splashes of Dubstar.

Robbie really ought to have written that Angels writer a big fat cheque. It kind of horrifies me what happened to him even if he did sign it away or whatever.

Do we seem to have got 21 posts in with missing the single entirely? Just seen it sadly languishing very low down on NMF but it was out Wednesday:

Also just seeing the insta caption. "The album I always wanted to make" is just another "my most personal album yet" trope isn't it :D

Far right insinuations and Crispin Mills being from posh stock were the main complaints back in the day. I don't know if there have been developments since then, I've not tuned in much since the (quite good) first album.

Rudebox has waited almost 20 years to cease being the most embarrassing Robbie Williams moment

Oh dear, I now see he expressed admiration for the Nazis

And before the great UK public stopped buying their records
:nononono:

I chuckled when I first heard this. He is still, all these years later, trying so desperately to be cool.

You can add as many distorted guitars and crunchy drums as you want Robster, but that voice will always sound like you're doing the theme tune to the latest CBeebies show

I want to hear more about why Kula Shaker are cunts
Well there's what Christian said. But also I remember thinking he was absolute cunt when I saw him. With retrospect I suspect he was off his nut on hallucinogenics. The moment that stuck with me was, part way his set he stopped, pointed at a tree and then started talking about the tree. 17 year old Ag had time for such shit.

I am oddly fond of Robbie these days. He was so woven into the fabric of UK turn of the millennium pop culture that I can't help but enjoy the bops from back in the day - and there were bops. Let's get that straight. His ludicrous success and popularity with the cis-hets obviously made him seem less of an attractive proposition to gays who stanned flopping divas, but he has always been one of the more LGBTQ-aligned pop stars of that ilk.

Oh he definitely would have been applauded back in the 90s for that. Befriending trees / off his tits would have somehow been "bringing rock and roll back"

We should be lucky they didn't release the tree talk as a single

Rocket did nothing so here's another one.

Bit of a dirge. I see he's not worked with Guy Chambers on these songs. Possibly an error.
