I feel he has watched the recent OASIS gigs do well then taken an ACID and put on a tracksuit and forget the tunes (choones!) & JustforMen.
 
And he’s still doing “oh I’m flirting with men but I’m not gay” routine like it’s still 2001

Older female artists usually get Radio 2's Piano Lounge OR Ka-Ry-Oke!
 
The song isn’t to my taste, but it’s catchy enough and the performance was fun actually
 
Maybe he could give us all these interesting updates when the album is (finally) out. Then again, it will only have been a year of promo.

I’m not convinced it’d take Taylor Swift to stop this from going to #1 TBH.

And even if he gets there, the collapse week two will surely be brutal. The interest just isn’t there.
 
There's no 'big' new releases this weel, which might explain the choice - I mean, Madison Beer has a good following and Sleaford Mods have hit the Top 10 a few times but no nailed-on #1 contender.
 
Wasn't it delayed until February initially, anyway? Has he spotted this being a softer week?
 
This does seem to be a very abrupt release. There’s still a deluxe scheduled for 6 February with five extra new tracks and the Laura Pausini duet tacked on.
 
The physicals are all out on 6th Feb too. So I guess that guarantees it two chart weeks.

Alex Petridis gave this a good review in the Guardian today and suggested this was the case as the focus seems to be on breaking the shared record with The Beatles for most UK number one albums.

But surely an act like Robbie is going to be heavily reliant on physicals to secure it.

I can imagine his download numbers are probably relatively healthy, but it's a small component. And his streaming numbers for the tracks released so far have been poor.
 
Yes, I would think the physicals would be needed too for a number one so it does seem a tad untidy.
 
Shame the Lily Allen physical release isn't this week. Quite amusing he's done a 'surprise drop' but yes its surely orchestrated for a quiet week
 
His streaming numbers are terrible, relative to his past success. The first track from almost a year ago is on 3m+ streams, the others around 1m, some lower.

None of the recent singles have made it into the 'Popular' section on his Spotify profile page, so at least 10 catalogue tracks are being listened to more than everything from this new album.

Subject matter notwithstanding, the whiff of late period Barlow is all over this.
