I couldn't find a thread and I noticed it had been gmailed (Toyah ? Thank you anyway, whoever...)

Still, typical really- I can't stand the bloke normally. He gets awful reviews and I quite like what Ive heard so far. Ok, Im not very far through (only up to song six) but though two (the title track and "Keep On") are spectacularly bad, the rest ranges from solid to the superb- "Lovelight" is FANTASTIC in a Justin kind of way and "She;s Madonna", which I slagged last week, has revealed itself to be a beauty...

I'm really liking this album... much better than the last one

I think "She's Madonna" and "Kiss Me" are really good and the rest is crap. He's more of a singles artist, right?

Whoops..."Good Doctor" is pretty POOR as well

I might have been TOO HASTY :D

Absolutely- its a weird mix...there is some strange stuff going on. Electro- hi NRG in places, typical Robbie once or twice and then some ODD stuff- baggy, rap and WEIRD WEIRD WEIRD songs ("Good Doctor"- what the FUCK ?)

"The Actor" gets it back on track though...

It's taken him a while to finally do a whole album of different...

I wasn't taken either way with the first single...

The first single is fucking DREADFUL though...

I like a lot of it but I can't say it's 'wowed' me at all. "She's Madonna", "Lovelight", "The 80s", "Louise" (:shy: ) and "The Actor" are quite good. A lot of the rest is pure shite though. Definitely a mixed bag.

It is, however, quite possibly the gayest album I've heard all year.

"Louise" is really rather good...I didnt think I would like it but its minimal electroisms work well with his rather pained delivery...

Yeah, it's his more his delivery that sells it to me. Emotive yet still somehow deadpan.

He namechecks Madge again in "The Actor". The BOY is clearly obsessed.

And you can't go wrong with "We're The Pet Shop Boys" in ANY FORM, though its not a patch on the group's DEFINITIVE version...

I do like that too, yes.. but it feels like he's a featured artist on a PSB record which is just as it SHOULD be really...

Oooh I've only heard a few tracks as the ones in gmail seem to do something to my computer (:grr:) Can't wait ti get it tomorrow though :D

And I quite like the rest of the album

"Dickhead" is absolutely SPECTACULARLY rubbish though. Overall, I think this could be the first Robbie album I buy since "Ive Been Expecting You" (and thats RUBBISH on the whole as well), though certainly not til it goes into a sale. Believe what you read- the bad stuff on it is AMAZINGLY so...and what he was thinking releasing the title track as the first single I will NEVER KNOW...

Glad you're all enjoying...

I've played this quite a bit over the weekend - which is frankly unheard of for a Robbie Williams album. I can't normally stand the man bar the one or two obvious gems in his back catalogue.

Not sure if I really like the album though... but it is different. I think overall, the bad does outweigh the good. The final third is dirge in the extreme (Dickhead, The 80s/The 90s barely warrant a single listen, let alone repeated plays) but it kicks off decently enough.

His delivery just grates in the end though - he's really not a great singer, the faux American accent is as offputting as ever and the lyrics veer between interesting to the utterly banal. A mixed bag overall really, a very mixed bag...

Yes, Mel B certainly does have TALANT

(Oh my, its been a WHILE)

I'll have a listen to these from the gmail when i get home. im not a robbie fan, but i'll give it a listen

There's about three memorable original tracks, two decent cover versions and the rest is just dross.

If I were Goldie Looking Chain I'd feel proper RIPPED OFF by most of this tripe.

I just came back form his concert in the city and it was FANTASTIC! I have CRY :o

Rudebox might be awful, I was nonplussed to be honest but after last night's live performance it just clicked with me, it was amazing and the crowd really seemed to get into it :sour:

Weird. The CD kinda plays on its own on the computer, and none of my music players recognise the CD. I won't be pleased if I can't rip it to my MP3 player :grr:

Start a thread in the technical forum. I'll bet somebody knows a way around it.

Other than that you're in the stupid position of downloading illegally an album you already legally own, just so you can listen to it a different way :manson:

downloaded king of the bongo out of curiosity and his version is beyond awful

I thought I would hate it as well as it has LILY FUCKING ALLEN on it and I love the original but actually, its RATHER GOOD I think

the chorus let's it down, it just does nothing
i LIKE robbie mind, well in a rates-a-few-of-his-singles way, but still i'd say i was pretty open to hearing his version and i think it's worse than bad

Oh star to answer your PM, the concert was AMAZING but I can't believe her left off some classics in favour of some RUBBISH-y songs :Oi:
The only album track he did was Monsoon which I didn't mind as it's great but there was no need for Better man or Make me pure :sour: I'd rather have him sing No regrets, Lazy days, Supreme or Millennium
He did the Take That song and everyone was like  and he went C'mon I know you people haven't heard it but it's easy to sing along, I was standing next to some french people who knew every single word of it, bastards.
He was joined onstage for 2 songs by Jonny Wilkes (sp?) and they did "Me and my shadow" and "Strong". Feel, Radio, Angels and Rudebox where definitely the highlights of the show.
He was smoking during Come undone and his cover of Staying alive WTF. He also drank like 5 shots of tequila during the show and he wrapped himself with Mexico's flag YAY. Oh and the show was being shwon on TV live and he said they wouldn't let him show his bum which he did anyway :manson: and moaned about us calling him Robin Williams :bad: and he's like "I ain't mother fucking Miss Doubtifre!" he also complained that during his South American part of the tour he hadn't seen any girl flash her tits and said that's good you all nice catholic people :D He spoke a bit of spanish but thank God he didn't sing any song in spanish!

But his last few albums were released further into the Xmas rush, weren't they? Late October is early for him....

Fantastic! Loving this bit:

I mean what exactly does the rap: "Got no strings / But I think with my dingaling / Wu-Tang with the bling bling / I spin with a tin-tin gin gin" mean? He is now without the sole man who could have kept this all mugging, practical joke-playing Neil Morrissey of the boy band world in line and the person who actually made him work instead of messing about. Actually that's unfair to Neil Morrissey. I mean Keith Chegwin.

And this leads us directly on to the next complaint: he raps on nearly every track, making John Barnes sound like Big Daddy Kane. He raps in a Scouse accent; he raps in a Jamaican accent; he raps in a French accent. Truly there is no end to his cuntishness.
