Robyn - Dancing on My Own

SOME queens right now…

I think I might be glad I never posted in this thread. Yeah, that’s how much I trust myself :D

Not everyone can be on the right side of history.

Not everyone can be Lena Dunham.

I was today year's old when I learnt that some gays rejected Dancing On My Own in the early days.

This is having a moment on streaming, apparently due to some Netflix movie.

How was is this thread only 2 pages long. I would have thought moopy would have been gushing over this on release...

It's also used in that new Ride or Die series with Victoria Spencer and Hannah Waddingham. Did she shop this around to every streamer?

He’s clearly not dancing on his own.

Unless he’s been dead the whole time and she can’t see him?

That might just be the WORST THING I HAVE HEARD all year

Why is there a person named Malcolm under the age of 50?

There's something that bothers me about this song being treated like *the* pop song on gay / pop social media. It's not even Robyn's best song. I get that it's influential and extremely well-crafted, but is it really the ultimate?

You are dangerously close to needing a spell in THE HAGUE too :kim:

I think my Robyn track du choix these days is Show Me Love, Honey, or one of the Royksopp collabs like Do It Again or The Girl and the Robot, rather than this which I overplayed to death during the 2010s, but I can understand why none of those have the access, the influence, and the international implications that Dancing On My Own does. She really does have such strength in depth in that discography though :disco:

It's not my favourite Robyn song, but I get why it's her most popular.

Let's be honest, is there any major artist - particularly queer friendly ones - whose most broadly beloved song is actually their best work?

I do think Dancing On My Own probably is her best work in terms of how effectively it condenses what she does into a lethal mission statement, it's just I'm no longer in a place with it where it hits like it used to anymore.

That said, I do stand by the view that Jentina - French Kisses was her best AND most beloved work :disco:

Would Like A Prayer be generally considered Madonna's best song by the plebs? If so, it is also her best work

While Dancing On My Own might not be Robyn's absolute best song, it is absolutely her most important song and it is THE Sad Banger, the most important genre of QUEER MUSIC

WELL now that you mention-

You are dangerously close to needing a spell in THE HAGUE too :kim:
