Nominees have been announced and it's... not as good this year. After a good few years of catching up with female talent, modern genres and inclusivity, they seem to have gone back to white male rock music. Big time.

* Bad Company
* The Black Crowes
* Mariah Carey
* Chubby Checker
* Joe Cocker
* Billy Idol
* Joy Division/New Order
* Cyndi Lauper
* Maná
* Oasis
* Outkast
* Phish
* Soundgarden
* The White Stripes

I think Mariah and Cyndi get in this year. And Oasis. Outkast are a shoe-in as there's only one hip-hop act this year and people have been waiting for them (although not happy they've leapfrogged De La Soul)

Personally quite happy and surprised to see Black Crowes, but don't like their chances.

An American institution retreating back into old white male territory?

Well it's certainly very 2025

Hopefully Cyndi, she’s had a real renaissance in terms of appreciation these last couple of years particularly, should have been career long of course.

Bad Company
Chubby Checker
Joe Cocker
Cyndi Lauper
Outkast
Salt-N-Pepa
Soundgarden
Warren Zevon

All in. Yay for Cyndi!

How did OutKast get in over Mariah?
How did Chubby Checker get overlooked for all of these years?

Although it is a bit weird as when the RRHOF started, they immediately inducted all of the obvious 1950s rockers very quickly, but some of them, much like Chubby Checker really were only known for dining out on a couple of important hits. He just happens not to be dead.

Salt n Pepa weren’t nominated so I assume they’re going in on the influence award? I think I predicted this actually…

I mean I’m probably a big ignorant to rock history but surely their are more deserving acts than Bad Company?

What about Iron Maiden? Motörhead? Sonic Youth? The Pixies? The Flaming Lips? In my limited view they seem to be far more revered.

Soundgarden seem to get a lot of love in the 90s alternative scene but I wouldn’t know how influential they were compared to, say, Alice In Chains, or Tool, also not in the HoF.

I’d say Soundgarden are deserving of their place. They are generally considered one of the big 4 of grunge, along with the already-inducted Nirvana and Pearl Jam, and Alice In Chains, who will surely get in soon.

So I wonder if Spinderella gets to join since she was part of the group for the big years

I think former members are invited? There was a bit of controversy when Blondie was inducted related to former members. Two of the band mates who were part of the group at the peak showed up on stage but were hushed by Debbie. :D They appeared to still be invited/part of the accolade.

@VoR just noticed that you missed The White Stripes off the inductee list.

I’m not anti White Stripes but them getting in over Oasis or Joy Division is crazy.

Joy Division have two, but ARE FAR LEGENDARY/ INFLUENTIAL.

Oasis likely just refused to turn up.
