The QUEEN returns! and she is NOT playing this time around.

An instantly iconic album cover:

New single, that is straight away up there as one of her best (both song AND video):

That deep down and DIRTY beat :disco:

QUEEN!

If you need something much more mellow, Dolerme from about a year back could have sat on Madonna's Music album tonally. STUN GORGE

Our MOTOMAMI is here girls :disco:
This album is quite literally a sensory OVERLOAD :D It's kind of amazing on first listen, but also leaves me kind of feeling like I need a lie down.
It's going to take a few listens to bed it all in.

My Spanish friends are all shaking and crying about this album's release today. It feels like such a major moment for her.

the rollout and buildup to this has been absolutely horrid and abortive so it's a pleasant surprise that the album actually has several moments.

Candy, Versace and HENTAI are great. Chicken Teriyaki is one of the worst songs EVER MADE :D

I don't get the unbridled HATRED for Chicken Teriyaki online (comment not aimed at Jark in particular for transparency purposes).
It's a fun bop! Play it in the sun and pop your puss!

this album smells of colonialism, and I'm here for it.

on the other hand, the comparison between the El Mal Querer and this shit is jarring. I mean, going from Pienso En Tu Mirá to Hentai is kind of a kii :manson:

Why are people not liking Chicken Teriyaki? Is it the :disco: to my mind repeated noise in the background?

Some of the GAY CHITTER CHATTER around Rosalía and this album's roll out online has been :eyes::eyes::eyes::eyes: to say the least (not on moopy MIND).
Very much the definition of queens thinking they are MAKING SOME POINTS, but actually just being misogynists.

Thankfully that all seems to have stopped now MOTOMAMI is finally here, and silenced them all in the process :disco:

Baffled that Pitchfork has finally discovered electro-Latino and it had to be a white Spanish poligonera who has even less reguetón-cred than Shakira the one they would fawn over. TYPICAL!

personally I feel there was little misogyny if any in the discourse, and that's a slightly disingenuous way of framing the conversation around her this last year. the fact is she very heavily appropriates other cultures, borrows from Latinx music, language and culture and passes for Latina herself. and then when people call that out the usual "misogyny!11" argument comes in to cloud things.

it's great that the album has proven people wrong (it would've have had to if the campaign hadn't been such jank) and won rave reviews (even the Pitchfork review touches on her habit for playing dress-up in other cultures), but it's highly reductive to claim that the growing sense of disappointment around her was just misogyny.

I like LLYLM a lot better than a lot of the claptrap in the album. It's much more her style, whatever that is considering she keeps hiding behind all these musical personas. Will the real Rosalía please stand up?
