I'm seeing The Vivienne next week with Bob The Drag Queen and Karen From Finance :disco:
 
Although it's Thursday, so I'll miss the iplayer show :D

You can't win here - if you have bad teeth you are slagged off but then you do a Rylan Clark and you're slagged off. But it shows that in general, dental hygiene in the UK is pretty bad compared to the US.
 
The Vivienne is indeed the most exciting of the bunch, even though I'm not sure I can tell of them apart just yet. The one that kept shouting needs to go coz she kind of ruined the episode for me. And that lipsync by Gothy :zombie:

I thought the coin looked better than the stamp.

The stamp was literally a cardboard box over a shit dress.
 
I preferred the coin to the stamp as well. But I'd favour Sum Ting overall because of her home town Bull Ring lewk.

She had a good voice but she looked a mess and while she had some banter, there wasn't much. Her set wasn't exactly tailored for the gays - she did Jess Glynn and Mr Brightside. Yes I think she's going to struggle in the not too distant future if there are strong queens in the fold, although I really liked her in the first episode!

She performed Up by The Saturdays and said it may or may not be a future lip sync song...
 
Well that's a hot pop banger at least. We potentially know two then.
 
Just remembered I saw Mary Mac lip sync to New Rules at Pride. She'd have sent Vinegar sashaying away.
 
Well that is not a lip sync song I can get DOWN with.

Song-wise I expected better than what we got on Thursday. In these post-sales charts years I don't think I'll know any of these songs unless we get dance douched from the arse of the 90s.
 
I mean. You’d think with the 100k they saved in prize money they could afford to licence something DECENT.
 
It's the BBC, I can well imagine a very millennial set of lip syncs so they can hit that all important 18-24 demographic.

I'm surprised that, as big as the show has gotten, Ru still gets away with occasionally pulling out obscure-ish 80s hits like Strut and New Attitude on the US show.
 
Although thinking about it, no 18-24 year old in 2019 gives a fuck about THE SATURDAYS so who knows? :D

Erm.....New Attitude is from Beverly Hills Cop and launched Patti's pop career. It's well known in the US. Strut was also a big hit there - Sheena's career was MUCH longer in the US than here. Just because neither were hits in the UK doesn't make them obscure.

She had a number 1 album containing said number 1 hit. I'd say that counts as a pop career. Even if it was brief.

That is true, but then I think the gay community has always been a bit more open to songs and artists from yesteryear - we're the community that still revels singers way after they've been dumped by anyone else.
 
I think quibbling over it is a little pointless. Patti Labelle is an icon, even if it wasn't a huge hit. I'd say that makes it a more appropriate choice than a lot of bigger hits by lesser stars.

I 100% agree with both of these points, and to be clear I LOVE that songs like that get on the show.

I was just expressing mild surprise that the TV studio don't strong-arm Ru and co into exclusively using hot modern hits to attract young viewers, given that's generally how TV works.

Maybe you're right, but I see her like the typical r&b singer with the ocassional crossover pop hit, and she didn't have that many.

I didn't know New Attitude before DR, so I refuse to believe it's such a classic, I don't care if it's from Bevery Hills Cop or whatever. :tongueout: It peaked at #17 in US, and yes, I know there are lots of classics out there that didn't do well in there charts at the time and it means nothing, but still. I would say it's fairly well know song in the US for people of a certain age, but that's it.
Btw I LOVE it and I'm playing it right now as I clean the mess in my flat.
 
We're way off topic now, but I never noticed before how Sheena's 'Telefone (Long Distance Love Affair)' shamelessly has the EXACT SAME backing track as 'Gloria' by Laura Branigan. :D
 
I don't know why we're all arguing when we all agree it's an absolute CLASSIC! :disco:

In fact, even though you hate me @Alla for that drunken moment 7 years ago, (which I have apologised about) we probably have the most similar music tastes on the whole of Moopy!
