Also, is Ru just having the time of her life with all these accents or what? She seems so DEAD in comparison on the US show.

That was incredible as an opener but I've got such a sour taste left from that elimination. Poor Joe, easily one of the early highlights for me, it feels like they've just thrown away a potential finalist - all based on some highly questionable judging. AND I thought she won the lip sync, albeit not by much. The Bowie look was fine, the Brighton one less so. It was still a decent outfit outside the theme and far better than many others.

What a tragic waste! Up there with one of the worst first episode eliminations ever.

Get her on a worldwide All Stars with Jimbo immediately please

It's an amazing start though and everyone feels like a contender, apart from a couple like Veronica Green who seems like such a dear anyway I'm glad they stayed.

Really can't remember them all, I'm sure some were shoddier than I'm recalling

Lawrence I felt was given a bit of preferential treatment. They obviously love her and want her to be the Greek chorus but it’s a bit heavy handed.

I thought this. It might just be that Ru was having fun with the name and accent, but it did lean a lot towards looking like favouritism.

Luckily Lawrence appears to be up there with the best of the bunch so I don't mind too much.

Veronica is one of the few who doesn’t look ravaged by drugs, disease, famine and pestilence out of drag

That's just our natural British look. Veronica could do with a bit of PESTILENCE, it'll spice up her drag no end

To be fair I don't think the ratio of ravaged/less attractive queens out of drag is much greater than the US version really

This was a great first episode, with a lot of interesting (and ropey) queens. It’s a lot better cast than last year.

It felt too early to send someone home and certainly not the one I found most intriguing of them all. :(

I think there is about the same level of ropiness as last year. Although, I suppose Gothy Ken Doll and Vinegar Strokes were both measures worse than any of this year's cast.

I fully expect him to come back later in the season or in season 3.

Remember the later season was filmed during Covid era so I’m not expecting any comebacks as any recurring cast would have to isolate for 2 weeks to take part.

I mean they did stop for like 6 months, I expect full new faces.

And I know you love her but I can just tell Lawrence has a VERY SPECIAL MOMENT planned for every episode :eyes:

Just giving this a REWATCH, and I totally missed Lawrence's MOMENT about not wanting to take her make up off on my first watch :D :eyes:

In other news unrelated to the above:
- I'm into CLAPHAM ICON Tia Kofi with her frizzy cultural moment and Alan Turing tribute. Ropey drag, but I stan a brainy queen :disco:
- I missed that ASSTina is 27 (!) I thought she was about 19!
- I rewatched the season 1 entrances, and whilst they had personalities the drag was SO ROUGH :D Sum Ting Wong's entrance look in particular was SUCH a wtf non-moment, as was Scaredy Cat's (remember HER!) TERRIFYING make up

Watching it again, the bottom 2 seemed SO RANDOM, it REALLY should have been Sister Sister and Cherry Valentine who are both obvious fodder.

It seems PERVERSE to deny Joe Black a go at Snatch Game? I felt the same about Mrs Kasha Davis, who clearly would have delivered a LEGENDARY LIZA had she been given the chance.

And, the notion that there are no black gay icons. I can't.

Mel B. Trisha Goddard. Gabrielle (Ms. @cwej would have served us eyepatch / side parting for DAYS).

Though that as I watched it. The eyepatch look was FIERCE.

And on that note... they could have gone as FIERCE.

Overall - that episode was head and shoulders above the first 2 episodes of the US version.

A couple of other random thoughts:

How is there a UK drag queen that doesn't know where Clapham is?

Why did the yellow one not do Su Pollard as her GAY ICON?

And Bimini or whatever she's called... that second look was FUCKING ATROCIOUS. It was an absolute mess.

Can someone explain Clapham vs East London to us foreigners? Is it like Brooklyn vs Manhattan (whatever that is)?

Is Laurence Scottish? I hadn't noticed :D

I love Sherry Valentine's laugh. It's hideous. More please :disco:

Band of Gold realness from Tia Kofi. Or if she's going Sister Sister: Emerdale Spice. Eye bags the house down visible under an inch of make up, something I've not enjoyed this much since Raven being critiqued and enjoyed by Jackie Collins. Also: the balls sticking in her hair and "I didn't like that sound of struggling".

Bimini's vadge hanging out at her entrance (how fitting, etc) was absolutely gross. What a scab :D I'll bet they already have an onlyfans.

Timmy Mallet aka Ginny Lemon ("this is why you have to stop doing drag at 30 people"). The 3rd nipple of Su Pollard more like. Love. Hissing at the girls during the untucked segment was 100% adorable.

The Dundee Trixie. I thought it was the gay from Slag Wars. Can't wait for the inevitable Slang Wars with Laurence going on what slipped out from both.

The actual Sister Sister has my favourite Liverpool accent so far.

Fifth Element star Tayce is already a huge fave in and out of the drag.

Well I loved Joe Black. They've lost an amazing talking head. Just stunned she was even bottoming. Her critiques were ridiculous. She either tried and failed to do something funny during that lip sync or just gave up at her opponent doing the Croydon Kameron Michaels legography.

Better the Veronica Green you know. I just find him and her so cute. I'm very hopeful they stay and keep delivering the unassuming.

Asttina had me at rude. He looks way more polished and glam as a boy than in drag though.

A'Whora. Lucky escape. I could have easily have got rid.

What a terrible mini challenge. No "there goes my social life"?

Oh I'm tired. Will watch again soon.

Joe was also letting us know what Jessie J in panto not getting the role of Snow White as she'd have liked will look like in 2030.

I lived and worked in a gay bar in Clapham MANY MANY YEARS AGO, before East London was even a thing.

Overall a really good bunch, but A'whora can go asap please. From the VTs I'd assumed Veronica Green would be mega out of her depth but I quite like the naive thing they've got going on.
