Anyone for a roast challenge?
RuPaul's search for the UK's Next Drag Race Superstar has reached the semi-final. The remaining queens must take to the mic, writing their own material for a stand-up comedy challenge that sees them hit the campaign trail to secure a place in the grand finale. Comedy star Aisling Bea pops by to offer the queens stand-up tips, while actor and pop star Olly Alexander joins RuPaul as his extra special guest judge, alongside Michelle Visage and Alan Carr, as another queen is asked to sashay away.

Black Peppa looked amazing, killed the lip sync and frankly Cheddar should have been in the bottom 2.

They really should have just handed Danny the win this week and had the other four all lip sync.

Imagine that, Pixie the comedy queen not being funny in a comedy challenge. It would've been quite something for Pixie to eliminate the two best lipsyncers.

I enjoyed some of the moments - Black Peppa "I don't want to be after someone really funny" - cut to her going after Jonbers :D
The roast was... well, Danny and Jonbers were funny. That's it! That's the post! Although I was tickled by Peppa's sighing during hers, inspired by the ultimate Farrah roast

Pixie predictably came over as being sort of nasty and unfunny, on the runway she reminds me a lot of Grotbags, except that Grotbags WAS 🏳️‍🌈CAMP!🏳️‍🌈

Nothing is really changing the two-horse race here, I'm #TeamDanny though. I like Cheddar but Christ she's hard work. Jonbers is my Miss Congen--- no wait I remembered Dakota, but I'm happy she's thererarrrr. Peppa was lucky to get this far tbh, 4 lipsyncs! I'm not especially excited by her lipsyncs though, she can do good stuff but there's a jumpsplit, great, ho hum
 
Queen?? It should have been King (by Years & Years).

Pixie and her period blood tribute to Ariel's beach bed linen and rope ensemble could not have had a messier flush down the toilet if she tried. Her rage at Danny being funny, then she was practically eye rolling at herself having to badly deliver her own bad material, and then finally that hideous lip sync where she didn't clean up the competition - she cleaned up herself, picking up her duvet for absolutely no apparent reason other than, what, to be polite (??), what an innovator.

Peppa was quite cute by comparison and I liked the line "why is Trixie Mattel spitting on me?"
 
Can someone PLEASE tell Ru that I know how she was told but GETTLES doesn’t sound like she’s saying GIRLS in another accent
 
Well at least the roast was entertaining. Danny killed but also Jonbers was good. She grew on me.
 
Apols if this has been said OVER AND OVER but i haven't read through the other threads. But this is such a WEIRD season, that really should have worked on paper.

I actually think Cheddar herself is a lot of the problem. It's inevitable that she was going to be cast at some point, as you can't REALLY do DRUK and ignore Cheddar Gorgeous, a legitimate UK drag legend and huge figure on the scene...but Cheddar just isn't a Drag Race queen, she doesn't really suit or fit the format and despite her doing well/good every week it's obvious that she's struggling to play the part as a Ru Girl like that show wants her to. It's making some fans online start to dislike Cheddar, when in reality it's trying to fit a square through a circle.

That the show bulldozed most of the cast out the way to clear the path for Cheddar and Danny means we're now left with a really underwhelming final 4.

It's almost been a borderline nasty edit on Jonbers, who has been portayed as basically being a DRIBBLING IRISH IDIOT shrieking potato every few seconds, when she's actually been quite decent at a lot of the challenges and has had some STUNNING runways.

Anyway, I haven't actively hated it like season 3, but it does need a re-think and re-look before season 5. I hope they take some notes from the CANADIAN franchise.
 
I wonder if part of the Cheddar circle/square thing is a reaction to what happened with Joe Black? He's an excellent drag queen, well known before the show with the highest following, but absolutely NOT good at Drag Race.

Deffo! It's again the same sort of thing - you can't really do DRUK and not cast Joe Black at some point, but the show actively seemed to reject Joe far more than Cheddar because her skill set is so different to what the show required.

Cheddar has managed to adapt a lot better, but it's pretty obvious that most of what the show requires is totally outside her usual wheelhouse. That she won Snatch Game with by adapting what seems to be the ONLY comedy routine/voice she's capable of doing (the old maiden trope) seems to be more like a fluke in retrospect.

Danny Beard on the other hand is exactly the sort of queen the show wants, and likes to cast. And she's flown for pretty much the entire season as a result.

Tbh shame on everyone who scoffed at Jonbers. I said this in another episode, but I HATE the way the show made her the butt of EVERY joke, while Peppa got the "cool" edit when she's served us nothing but HOTDOG WATER in the challenges. And it's even MORE infuriating when Jonbers was the one who actually showed REAL growth.

Anyways, the Final Four SHOULD'VE been Cheddar, Danny, Sminty, and DAKOTA.

Also, Baby absent from crowd :(
 
Am I missing some pun in Just May's name, or is it not Geri-related at all? Seems like a missed opportunity there.

This season completely flatlined for me, despite a very strong start and a stellar cast. I feel losing Baby, Sminty and Dakota really sapped the season of its biggest personalities. The end of a DR season is always a bit of a slog, but this one more than most. The overall episode length could be trimmed significantly to put more focus on the challenge deliverable and runway. The rest is just filler.
 
This season could and should’ve had a stronger top 4. Having dragged a limping Peppa all the way there and adding Jonbers, regardless of her growth, on top of that just adds absolutely nothing to the two-headed horse race between Danny and Cheddar.
 
They should have championed Dakota for what she COULD do, rather than the repeated criticism regarding her look. But sleeping on her snatch was the biggest indicator that they weren't interested in doing that.
 
I definitely skip most of the workroom chatter. It kills so much of the momentum for me.
