Rupaul’s Drag Race UK (BBC3)

BBC THREE? They’re wasting it on an online only channel?

Jesus...

The BBC3 bit does seem a bit odd, doesn't it? Though I suppose the Beeb are looking to make iPlayer a real alternative to other streaming services with binge viewing/boxset stuff, with shows like Killing Eve and Informer available to watch in full online while still airing on TV. I could see them giving Drag Race UK a slot on BBC2, maybe the week after each episode's online debut so it drives people to the site.

Exciting! Possibly they want to see how it does before launching it in miss of a mainstream way. Or have BBC Three/iPlayer is the mainstream now. The charts are so confusing etc.

Fleabag started off on BBC3. If it's shit, they can bury it.

Besides how else do you all watch Drag Race if not online?

This has been rumoured for a long time, with Jonathan Ross as the main judge at one point (!) which I fucking hope not.

Do we think Ru will drag her corpse over to judge? I am pretty sure Michelle would do it.

My prediction - Ru will host and judge, but won't be in drag apart from possibly the opening and finale.

You aren't PAYING me ENOUGH HONEY! (/ru)

I do think they'll need somebody (NOT Michelle) to properly explain the context of any UK-related jokes or references to Ru.

Ru and Michelle will surely be involved. Which doesn’t leave much space for anyone else...

If Ru does it I think they've kind of missed an opportunity to see how the franchise works in other hands (Bianca? Courtney?) but then again to a lot of the newer, casual fans who don't have the CONTEXT of Mama Ru absolutely HATING EVERY SECOND these days, and whom this is clearly aimed at, doing it without him might be a turn-off.

I can see them getting Jade from Little Mix as one of the judges. It will ensure viewers from their stans and she’s always been very vocal about being a fan.

She'll be on the wishlist but there's the small matter of a world tour etc.

I've said my piece on "Mama Ru" before and some of the more toxic comments to have emerged from his naked cranium *cough SELF APPOINTED GATEKEEPER cough cough* so the "franchise in other hands" idea would be well worth exploring IMNVHO.

Courtney will be involved somewhere, surely?

I thought they'd considered this before, but found British drag queens to be too focused on comedy and not on style or something?

If the posters I've seen for provincial social club comedy nights are anything to go by, I'll be expecting a series full of people which such challenging names as Fanny LaQueef, Miss Baps and Rosy Ringpiece.

In fairness, the world of UK drag queens has changed- since Drag Race, to be honest. The "cabaret" stars of yester-year are still about, I'm sure, but when I went to the DragCon thing in London a couple of months back, all the UK queens parading about were very much of the Drag Race template...

I've heard enough of the US queens praising UK queens over the last couple of years to make me think we can bring it.

Gagging to see who's going to be our Porkchop :disco:

And even if the UK scene is more focussed on comedy, that's not an issue as long as the tasks reflect that, is it?

Definitely! I like the comedy aspects and UK queens should bring UK humour so I don't think more comedy would be an issue

I reckon it'll be a bit low rent for sure - however much Drag Queens in the US probably struggle with budget before getting on Drag Race, I'd imagine a working queen in New York or California would have far greater resources than a bar queen from Sheffield.

That said, I'll be interested to see if any local girls make the cut.

I’m gagging at the prospect of some of Glasgow’s premier drag artists appearing :D

If this is successful I can see Drag Race all over Europe. Please make it happen!

The real issue is - who will judge and who for Snatch Game?

If Kim Woodburn never appears, I'm basically out.

That cheap queen that's often on BOTS is gonna kill to be there.
