Rupaul’s Drag Race UK - Season 8



Overall seems like a strong bunch! Didn’t need Bones 2.0 but glad that we have a predominantly older queen season incoming.

Here for Paris Baby and her self proclaimed villain (I hope she delivers!) and Love that Anita didn’t have to drop the Piss from her name.

Hate most of their names.

Tuning in of course. UK has had some amazing seasons in the recent past.
 
I can only really cope with UK, USA and AllStars now - and some of those have been a trial - anything beyond that and I immediately tap out - there is too too much of it and it's been allowed to dictate what it is to be a drag queen a bit too much in my HUMBLE MOTHERTUCKING view.
 
KY is a regular Manchester girl, I know her well. Brash and bolshy, full of herself, crude and cunty… everything you want from a drag queen
 
Paris Baby looks like an early chop. That look is NOT IT.

I like Anita Piss, KY Kelly, Delta and Alik so far. Why does Anita look so much like Lady Gaga??

The names are just tragic. Although "The Delta Quadrant" is kinda cool.

The names this season are largely dreadful. And I have to say, on the sole basis of the Meet the Queens, they really do just feel like the same old bunch as ever. I know there are a lot of complaints about the generic 'Drag Race' personality - particularly among younger queens who grew up with the show - on the US version. But the UK edition feels so much worse for the fabled @Lucille 'Chick'n Pie' archetype (or the endless parade of Soho queens who go on about Soho drag as if it's all that discernable a thing compared to, say, South London/RVT/Brewers drag - which doesn't really seem to get much representation on the show, but I'm not sure how many seem to actually want to take part...), or the introductory 'crude but out there' autogenerated crap pun lines that feel so dominant.

I think about 2-3 queens feel remotely interesting each season? And usually the compulsory arty design school one that's actually interesting to look at gets chopped five episodes in. For all the critiques of the US version, it feels much better at consistently finding one or two actual weirdos each season than the UK does. The UK one needs far more Lills and Kyran Thraxes - I don't give a fuck about you being from Yorkshire, I give a fuck about whether you're actually entertaining and offbeat in some way or another!
 
I will say that I'm actually quite looking forward to Paris Baby, just solely on the basis that "everyone last season was crap" is quite the ballsy (and correct!) opening gambit :D

(I imagine her being a cunt will be the main plotline of the first three episodes, before she goes out with a whimper in episode 4).
 
I like KY Kelly. My one time in Leeds she had her name billed somewhere and I didn't get to see her, but an impression already made.
 
Let's hope Flesh has more personality than Bones.

God it shows how dry last season was that Bones actually won!
 
I will say that Flesh did feel like she had more life to her than Bones. Albeit that doesn't take much :D
 
I forget how bad last season was, so much that I was convinced that the last winner was Kyran before reading this thread.
 
I think about “TINA NOOOOOOOO!” a lot, and I liked the Irish queen who did the weather lady monologue when she got kicked out, but those are my only particularly strong memories of the last season.
 
I actually, surprisingly, really liked the Ru-veals - an interesting bunch, skewing older which makes a nice change.
 
Michele Lamy and Erin O'Connor are absolutely giving. I love that Michele is getting airtime, but I agree with Lucille that this is a little cheap for her. Especially when her peer Daphne Guinness got to appear in All Winners season.

I legit thought Rick Astley had passed away years ago.
 
Some old lady the fashion queens know does NOT make up for the rest, compared to previous seasons
 
Thandiwe's Moopy topic cataloguing her turning up to any old shite is one of my all-time favourites and I'm glad she's getting yet another chance to empty the catering leftovers into her bag.

I thought there might've been a chance they'd finally get VB given the bailiffs turning up at her label but I fear all hopes are over, particularly with the general fatigue and lack of interest that surrounds the whole show nowadays. She's not gonna rock up when it's Baga's Drag Race on Channel 5.
