S11 E05: The Monster Ball

This was WAY better than last season's 3x Runway episode. The theme was more interesting and the queens are more creative.

How did Scarlet NOT win that?! All 3 of her looks were astounding. Especially her "Witch Please!" look. That gave me chills bitch.

I had a feeling Ariel would go. You can sniff the Instagram off her through the screen.

Silky was quite rubbish too. Although that bitch can serve FACE.

Is Snatch Game next episode?
 
Silky was fucking shit. I wanted her out.

I wanted Yvie or Nina to win.
 
Yvie clearly would have won had that last look not failed so hard.
 
sorry to moan but i just don't like anyone this season. and the fashion is piss poor. and i still can't get over the fact they are (almost entirely) so fucking stupid.

I was very confused by the judging this week. I thought Nina West clearly should have been in the top over boring Plastique, and Rajah's basic swimsuit collection should have landed her in the bottom over Shuga, who was a complete mess with the first and last looks but at least had ONE really good outfit with the witch.

Brooklyn a deserved winner I guess, but aside from the ballet walking none of the actual looks really thrilled me.
 
I thought the fashions were lacking this episode. Also the themes all ran into each other and it was a lot of tight black dresses and boring corsets.

I enjoy Nina when she speaks and her looks were good this episode. She’s growing on me.
 
A Brooklyn / Vanjie lip sync is pretty much inevitable at some point, isn't it?

Hopefully close to the end as Brooklyn's got to be a lock for top 5, and Vanjie is very entertaining - though I'm starting to worry about her lack of variety on the runway. She seems to be in a safe holding pattern with the challenges right now too.
 
I assume the top 4 will be Brooklyne, Eyvie, Plastique and either Silky or Vanjie.
 
Now that Nina's survived a design challenge I think she's a strong top 4 contender. Moreso than Plastique, who looks nice but isn't giving me a whole lot of personality.
 
Was it me or has Nina told that story about being harassed in college twice now?
 
Yes she did, I think once on a regular episode and once on untucked.
 
I still like Silky, but yes, this week wasn't her best. Her "I AIN'T NO SPOOKY BITCH" had me howling though. Rivalled only by "Coven girl, put the bass in your walk" :D

I thought Brooklynne was the winner by a mile- Yvie was ok, but that last look was terrible. I definitely think it was the right bottom two but by fuck that lip-sync was lacklustre. Not helped by them using the boring US version of "I'm Your Baby Tonight"- the European version is SCREAMING OUT for a lip-sync. I almost thought Ru was going to double eliminate, it was that boring. How can you not even go fucking mad at the "LOOKS LIKE I'M FATAL, IT"S ALL ON THE TABLE" bit?
 
I think Shuga was obviously embodying the song more, but yeah until Ariel tripped I was wondering if they might use it to clear out some deadwood.

I like her (Shuga) - she's served some fun looks and she seems lovely, but she does come across as a bit of a basic bitch. Her Youtube series is hard going. All "GIRL!" style affectation and very little wit.
 
Just watching Untucked. I always think if you're in the bottom 2 and you get a special video from a loved one you must be so pissed - it's got to be the clearest sign that they're preparing to get rid. :D

Although in this case it went the other way. I wonder if they were expecting Ariel to win the lip sync? She's a weaker drag queen across the board, but more of a personality in the context of the show, and obviously younger and more externally popular.
 
I feel very uncomfortable whenever Silky interacts with celebrities. She’s gonna break one eventually.
 
I just remembered but Suga’s troll outfit has to be one of the worst looks to ever grace the runway.
 
Why on earth did Ariel decide to lipsync in that outfit, anyway? Others have changed in the past, so I assume they don't have to. Clearly an accident waiting to happen.

SAME! I would have put Nina, Scarlet, A'Keria or Platique in the top.
I thought Yvie looked a MESS (and you see much better versions of her drag on Dragula). I kind of loved how Vanjie blatently just grabbed 3 random outfits and shoehorned them into whatever the theme was :D

It's definitely the time in the season to start clearing the deadwood - Ariel, Ra'Jah and Shuga are all just taking up space rn. It feels a bit like season 5 where it took an age for Jade Jolie to finally be eliminated and the competition to start proper.

Shuga is a weird casting. They clearly expected her to be a legendary New York comedy queen like Bianca or Bob, but has so far served up a whole load of NOTHNG.

FINALLY: I thought Mayhem and Aquaria served 6 better looks between them in last year's ball than any of the queens did in the entire ep.
 
I thought Nina was robbed of a top spot. It was schticky but the Little Shop of Horrors plus the Salem witch thing and then the mask look was the most consistent performance there.

Ariel was weak and was giving so much Phi Phi without the willingness to go fully blown psycho so she was a fair exit. The mermaid horror look...

With Shuga I get her presence from a narrative standpoint. Quitting corporate six figure job on a whim to become a drag queen is interesting. But she hasn't brought much of anything and the troll look was a choice choice choice.

She's not BAD though from a performative standpoint. Just a bit rough and basic.

Overall...
Top: Nina, Yvie, Silky
Top vers: Vanjie, Brook Lynn (They need to stop kissing)
Vers: Plastique, Akeria, Scarlet
Bottom vers: Rajah (tho I liked her lip sync and think she'll stay a while for drama)
Bottom: Shuga
 
I realised at the beginning of the episode that I can't remember a single thing that Shuga or Akeria have done in the entire season, so when Shuga was bottom 2 assumed she'd be out. But man... that lip sync was dog for both of them, though I agree that Ariel was weaker.

Good fall though. :D
 
I dont feel engaged with this season at all. I'm not sure if the cast are weaker or if I'm just bored of the format. That runway seemed to go on forever. I'm probably going to give it until snatch game before deciding whether to give up on it altogether.

Oh has it? I don't recall when, just that it had happened.

I do remember Jinkx making the comment about being grateful she wasn't wearing the hoop skirt when she lipsynced, thinking about it.
 
I thought Nina was the standout this week. I loved her mask reveal - how she was only considered ‘safe’ felt a bit odd to me. She’s felt undermarked by Ru in general for me.

Vanje is a great personality but I have zero interest in the Brooke arc she’s got going on and her looks have been very samey
 
I enjoyed the Farrah Moon throwback Ariel delivered

But girl could have ripped that trail off, talk about a safety hazard

Same here. Little interest in their joint story, but individually they are both interesting and delivering.

Nina reminds me too much of Eric Stonestreet to take her seriously.
 
I am so pleased at the improvement in Vanjie! I think she still has some way to go with regards to her runway looks, and perhaps coming back a bit later would have been better for her but she is TV Gold. A fantastic talking head, and she's made me laugh SO many times. I think she'll probably last till top 6-7 or so, but sadly I can't see her making the final. She'll be back in All Stars though. Perhaps Season 5 would be overkill but they can't not give her another go at some point. I'd pay to see her over any other queen this year. Ru did the right thing bringing her back, I think she has now cemented herself as one of the TOP queens.

I kinda like the romance thing, we've never had it before, so it's new, but I guess it could get tiring.
 
Finally saw this! Well pfft

Brook Lynne winning, sure ok, the second look was the best though

Plastique was robbed I think, she had the biggest range and the best looks IMO

Baffled by Yvie, I thought the T-Rex was one of the worst ones! The witch was good but zero voodoo doll. I’m finding her quite unlikeable. Is she getting a winner’s edit or a villain edit?

Scarlet I still don’t like but her looks were solid

Vanjie needs to step it up but maybe not in immediate danger? Liked the wings

Silky is losing steam, a bit one note now

Suga was alright I thought, except the first look. I guess the third was a bit of a mess though, but bottom two?

Akeria I always forget, and no exception today

Same goes for Raja, except she’s always popping up getting shitty about something

Nina’s face I still can’t get over, wasn’t really living for the Little Shop one, nice idea though, and the Salem look was good but kind of school play. The fake face was :D though

Ariel, flush. The same mug and hair, an unscary mermaid and boring choices. Seems like she only came here for the talking heads and that was all pouting and queeny side-eyes
