S12 E05: Gay’s Anatomy

I just don't find Aiden likeable enough to get behind her as an underdog. She's sulky and I had to hide when she came into the work room at the end of this episode saying whatever it was she said as an entrance.

Jinkx she is not.

But I'm sure she's actually lovely.
 
i can't abide the meanness towards aiden. i don't care if she hasn't been super sisterly to them, the way nobody but Heidi came to her defence made me sad.

i just also hate the way this show flattens so many important conversations around drag. like, of course you're going to be more awkward and shy if you're coming from a tiny town and you barely perform versus a seasoned NYC queen. and like, it's an expensive hobby/career. pretending like your fashion can compete with a girl who has money is just stupid and disingenuous.

and ofc, the stuff with sherry is super unfortunate, cos she's obviously one of the best in the bunch. i think i'd have preferred for them to keep the show as it is. at least it would make narrative sense
 
It was lose lose for me with that lipsync though I'm pleased Heidi n Seekie got through as she's just a gem. She had a rotten challenge and a rotten runway though, so she's lucky did, especially having forgotten to pin her damn wig on.

I enjoyed Nicki's drag and would have happily have seen a few more weeks of it. I couldn't really argue with her getting the boot though.

I can't warm to Aiden but that Mae West was pretty funny once you put memories of Alaska aside. Jaiden is a joy and I'm really enjoying everything there. Gigi is a gem too and I'm warming up to her a lot.

Jan's been a disappointment so far with some middling drag and barely there main performance. The new Cheryl Hole she so far AIN'T.
 
I'm finding this series really difficult to watch. The fact Sherry is doing so well is really irking me, and despite her doing well in the challenge I cannot get past the other things. She's just so unlikeable, but I realise I wouldn't be saying this if we didn't know about the other things she had done. I'm glad she's been written out of the show as much as possible. She deserves to be.

I'm sure in the past though, when it's suited them, they've loved running with that storyline of it being harder for small town queens. Just depends what narrative they fancy this time...

I'm not the biggest Aiden fan but I was totally here to see her knock Brita out this week. No way was Heidi worse than Brita this week, but she brought it in the lip sync despite wig fail.

I have a very odd crush on Jan. Never normally my type, but I definitely would.
 
is this the first time someone's lost their wig and won the lipsync?

i get confused after all of brown cow stunning's folicular shenanigans.
 
Losing her wig aside, and I kind of think she should have just went with it (rather than put it it back on), that was a good lip sync from Heidi
 
Ugh I've caught up with the last two episodes - two of my three favourites have gone out. :( both times I thought the 3rd places should've been in the bottom (and likely would've gone - Aiden vs Brita first, and Brita vs Heidi this time, keeping Heidi.
I feel like the rest of the 'characters' are things we've already seen in several seasons.

The acting challenge was actually good too, who knew? But it's kind of taken the wind out of my sails a bit for this season, I'm not especially excited about some left-of-field winner.

Ranking:
1. Jackie Cox - Serving Alaska/Maureen Lipman realness. My choice comedy queen.
2. Gigi Goode - Kind of nailing the challenges and runways reliably, but she's no Aquaria yet
3. Jaida Essence Hall - She can look better than anyone, and likeable too
4. Crystal Methyd - Very likeable too, and her runways haven't been too out-there to enjoy.
5. Jan - I like her as a character, she needs to bring the runways though.
6. Heidi N Closet - Like her a lot, but busted. I expect Ru is going to keep her and throw someone (Jan) under the narrative bus like she did for Vanjie
7. Sherry Pie
8. Widow Von'Du - Entertaining but what a shitty attitude every time
9. Aiden Zhane - Interesting but not especially unique, another sulky madam
10. Brita - Who said the entitledness of AS4 Latrice, and the one-note runways of AS4 Latrice? THAT!!

I don't like Aiden and I find her completely joyless for a drag queen. Untucked was however hard to watch. Jaida and Brita are true trash.
 
I can’t really call a winner now... but I’d say that Jaida is the only one who might be a better version of the corresponding past queen (I guess Akeria - in terms of a major pageant queen)

I suppose Jan might end up being better than Alexis Michele but I feel that 5th place bus on a collision course
 
I think Widow and Gigi are both gonna end up in the top 4, Jaida probably as well. Jan and Jackie both feel like a number 5 exit.
 
I feel like Jackie needs to actually DO SOMETHING (besides being very handsome) some time soon.
 
I can't see beyond Gigi as winner at this point. Hopefully Jackie and Jan have potential, but their inability (particularly Jan's) to fully deliver upon it this far in is slightly worrying.
 
Surely if it's a lip sync finale then Widow stands a good chance?

Although that might be up on the air with social distancing and one of the likely finalists being kicked out.
 
The final is due to air around mid-May I think, and there is no way they are going to be able to film it before then, so I think the finale will be delayed.

Pretty sure that Gigi and (redacted) are top 4, the others could be almost anyone, except Brita, Heidi and Aiden, I'd say.
 
I wonder if they will try a different way of resolving it? Or perhaps they will just declare the other three joint winners :eyes: and abandon it altogether.
 
How else CAN they resolve it? Film a House Party gathering? They can't even do a studio reunion like days gone by.

They'd be better to put the episodes out fortnightly for now so that gives them more time. A massive gap between the penultimate episode and the finale is only going to kill the momentum.
 
Resolute NO to fortnightly episodes. Not when we can't go outside.

In fact, they should hammer this out, do a social distance lip sync finale on Tik Tok and dive RIGHT into All Stars with bonus content. Then Drag Race Canada and first time Netflix versions of every Thailand episode.
 
I suppose if one season was going to be utterly fucked, it makes sense that it is this one.
 
Well scheduling-wise, the easy fix would be to delay the finale until after AS5 and just slide it all forwards a week?

She really has been a pain in the arse for producers. All that effort to edit as much of her as possible out of the episodes, and she goes and wins most of the challenges, and can't even be effectively banned from the final - because no one's able to attend a final anyway :D

Do none of these queens realise that acting like a hateful cunt on television might harm their bookings?

At the same time, they’re making Aiden more likeable by turning her into a plucky underdog. What viewer is going to side with the bullies?

I still largely like Jan and Jackie but it is clear that all the New York queens are up each other’s arses (metaphorically speaking) :ken:
 
This was an amazing episode.

Jan - she had me at breathing out, the push at the end was very Slap Her She's French, and she was perfect foil for Sherry. Runway still flat-lining hard, bless her.

Jackie - very good in the challenge, she'll have to make sure Snatch and any stand-up challenges are her stand out moments otherwise she'll have been tumbleweed regardless of her obvious high quality.

Heidi - she's almost a bit like Bagga in terms of getting by on everything except actual drag :D Make no mistake, I don't want her going anywhere, she is this season's star.

Sher'pie - serving pure Big Ang "can we talk about me now" was stunning. I now have no doubt her horrifying catfish capabilities must have been equally as hypnotic.

Gigi - she did her part very well, but was definitely a victim of the whole team doing the one show as opposed to 2 teams.

Aiden - she's wonky as hell, but she had the voice down so well and the ghost was almost funny how it mirrored Grita actually being tormented by her being good.

Crystal Method - I'm now living for the fact that she clearly found a fabric she likes and decided to buy it in every colour. She's absolutely the dimmest of sparks, but I want these rubbish runways to never end.

Bring on the Snatch!
 
Oh, and I found it actually disgusting when Sherry was talking about her mother, absolutely no footage of her was shown, instead the camera lingered on both Jackie and Widow, and of course they kept Sherry's dialogue in there only because it set up emotion that was shared naturally, or as naturally as these things can happen on this show.

Speaking of Widow, she may have looked like a Christmas tree bobble in the groin, but I thought what she did with her body looked sensational. She made her mama say mumakusa sound like it was improvised.
