S13 E01: The Pork Chop

Watching lip syncs of queens you’ve only just ”met” is not engaging at all.
 
Well Symone is the one I warmed to the most, find it impossible to keep track of all the names in episode 1
 
I didn’t not like it

but I don’t know what any of them are called (and I’ve only just finished the eppy)
 
The big loud one better be funny because their personality seems AWFUL.

Loved the Janet Jackson lip synch the most I think. The one who lost had legit amazing choreography.

Symone had the best lip sync. Her veteran opponent was dancing like a back up dancer (I imagine many would have lost their nerve against her) - she and Symone had very natural talking heads and abilities and were the strongest pair to watch even if the Jancer survivor had the one 15 second dance loop :)

Still rating the cassette switching as the highlight.

The whole episode is screaming for episode 2 to have been available straight away though.
 
So who do we think should go home?

I’d pick the one with the red feathers, nothing interesting about her other than looking good as a boy.
 
Symone an early fave for me, too. That lipsync was seasoned.

I don't particularly like Tina Burner, but I want her to stay as long as possible - purely to give us the awful camp villainy we were deprived of through Mimi Imfurst's early exits, and Sherry Pie's cancellation.
 
Tina might be annoying but actually, on first look, she seems quite GOOD.

Those two were exactly who she reminded me of. I didn’t find her likable either, but I hope she and that Rosé one cause a lot of drama.
 
Mixed feelings about that...

On one hand it was a good way to give each of the queens a proper moment right out the gate, and it did shake things up, no doubt about that.

However it got REALLY quite repetitive by the end, and I’m actually not sure I like seeing what they’re capable of in lip syncs right from the start. OK I’m sure some of them have all manner of tricks up their sleeves but it does mean we’ll be going into some shock bottom twos with a fairly good idea of how they’re going to go.

Finally I thought maybe the bottom 7 would have to do some sort of other challenge to decide who goes. Having them now vote amongst themselves on first impressions alone seems unnecessarily harsh - it’s the kind of six-chair challenge bollocks you introduce to try and inject life into a dying format and Drag Race isn’t dying.
 
Joey Jay is hot, but it's a good looking cast. She surely isn't lasting long, so whether she leaves first, second or third I don't really care.

I quite liked the mix up and having an indication of their lipsync prowess already. Agree with the bottom 7 voting amongst themselves though. Hopefully that isn't as straightforward at least as it first appears.
 
Wasn't the chicken feathers piece supposed to be a JOKE? Let's not act like Drag Race is HIGH BROW.

I liked his line "I'm Joey Jay and I'm the dumbest bitch you'll ever meet" lol
 
First couple of seconds I thought that the black version of Seth MacFarlane, Olivia Lux, was the trade of the season, but then I got scared of that giant mouth.
 
I liked Symone's dress made of Polaroids, the denim boombox, Kahmora(?) literally BURSTING for someone to ask who she was wearing, and Joey Jay's face... Out of drag anyway.

Some of the songs were BANGERS but God, six lip syncs in a row sure dragged.
 
Yeah I agree with that sentiment. Lip synchs are best when there's risk and urgency involved. This episode kinda made them a bit too disposable.
 
Has Graham gone on the record yet?

I loved Tina basically coming through as Lil Kim during the rap part. The other 2 were absolutely useless at this point.
 
The one who lost their train of thought after saying bareback is an adorable bimbo (so I'm not surprised kinda kool likes them!)

The feather in the air in front of her dancing was a nice touch. Surprised she didn't squeeze a cock joke out of all the chicken talk.

A bit late to the party, but that was ... interesting at least
I liked the twist, even though the impromptu lip syncs didn't really lend themselves to anything other than whatever stock tricks the queens normally had. Can't say I agree with all of the winners, I can't remember all their names yet but SeLe Ri vs Leilani was a dubious call.

FASCINATED by Kahmora (yeah yeah I know Asian) looking like a fabulous 40-something Chinese diva. I liked Jay's outfit tbh, and Kandy Muse is nowhere near as irritating as I thought.

The thumbnail for the episode on Rula's link was Rose's face and I honestly thought (omg is that Ariel Versace?) - arrogant as fuck but she looked great. That lip sync was a weird call but it puts some drama in for later. I felt bad for Utica, clearly a bit rattled and not as big a personality as the others, despite the zany bluster.

I liked it all until the last few minutes - that voting twist (if it's as it stands), and not having Ru make the choice, is lazy reality TV bullshit. Just arbitrary and painful for all concerned. Presumably they'll get a challenge to do together to at least see what they're made of.

Did i miss it or was nothing mentioned of the fact that Tamisha Iman & La La Ri are mother / daughter.

The girls were seen asking each other who they lost against a few times but i didn't notice Denali saying anythign about La La Ri
 
I was waiting for something about that connection too! I know the structure of this episode wouldn't have allowed for it, but I really did miss having all the queens meet and mingle for the first time at the start.
