Surely there's going to be another twist and they don't really vote anyone out? Because that's the most stupid idea ever.

I really hope there's another twist - but they do seem to be lining it up to be that simple/stupid.

Perhaps it's the plan to bring her back for 'revenge' in a future episode. A lipsync to get back into the competition, conveniently lined up in a week where one of the more deadwood queens is going to be bottom.

Yep and some narrative along the lines of 'that's what I need to LIGHT A FIRE IN MY ASS / GET OUT OF MY OWN HEAD / etc. etc.' type thing. ugh.

If they pursue this, than doing it during pandemic year is totally tone deaf.

This is terrible, why am I spending half the episode with half of the cast missing.

Ok it got better but the first ten minutes really left a bad taste in my mouth. It’s not fun to torture the queens this way and just to create drama.

I also thought the whole Gotmik coming out was way too rehearsed and produced. Which I get it, they wanted to make sure it came out but he doesn’t hit me as someone who would get so rattled over a word.

Queens rating:
1. Simone - even though I thought her night dress looked messy, she was my favorite performer and won that lipsync to a song that’s not really a lipsync song
2. Olivia - he has such a soft face and big smile, reminds me a bit of Valentina but less evil
3. Gotmik - you can’t deny her fashion, I think she will struggle in the performance bits
4. Tina Burner - a bit hateful tbh despite being a high level performer. Also why is she so orange?
5. Kandy Muse - not as likeable as she thinks she is but she’s defensively a favorite of the judges.
6. La La Ri - an improvement over last week especially the gold runway but still one of the more expendable ones
7. Elliott - I felt bad for her for going through it but the reality is she’s just not an interesting queen. Very much a bar queen.

So the whole Elliot thing was entirely wasted. It’s a good idea to cause some DRAMA! and that is already on its way to working but why piss it away so early by basically reintroducing her in the next scene after she’d been kicked out? And then letting him give away the (admittedly fairly obvious) reveal about the other queens? Utterly bizarre, unless there’s something I was missing. I would have had an episode with just the other “eliminated” queens and brought him back at the end to make the decision of who to get rid of or something. As it is, it was a bit MEH.

Having said that, I liked the episode, it’s an interesting bunch. There’s a couple of obvious standouts and some surprises- I actually really like Lala Ri both as a talking head and Queen- but Symone is the obvious standout and deserving winner. That lip sync was one for the ages, despite being so understated. I couldn’t take my eyes off her, exacerbated by the flapping about that Olivia was trying, which might have worked out ok against lesser queens. Anyway, LEGENDARY.

Yeah, I’m really not getting good vibes from Tina. Or Kandy. I think I want to drown Elliott.

The episode evolved fairly well. The shenanigans can fuck off though.

Here to echo the same feeling about the beginning of the episode, what a fucking mess. It seems like the first episode served only as a way to split them into two groups, with Elliott being thrown in the first group just to create drama, which it didn't really because it was so obvious and only led to that damp squib of a reveal of what went on. Meh.

The rest of the episode was fairly standard. I still prefer having everyone in the room at the same time to these split first challenges.
Having had two lipsyncs and a performance based challenge, Symone is clearly ahead right now, she really has a great sense of her face and her body movements. It'll be interesting to see how she does in the other challenges.

Olivia is by far my favourite (of these seven at least).

This was a struggle, even when things picked up and plot went back to normal it was a struggle to go through the stupid overdramatisation of every little thing like trying to make something big out of what Eliott said to Kandy, or the one with Gottmik’s gender reveal.

And this whole thing about Eliott turning up from nowhere and now she’s a spy when the queens had only spent one day without her. They always make such a big deal out of the other group when in every season none of the groups matter as soon as they mix them.

Even though she obviously wasn't leaving, I found every aspect of this year's 'twist' to be uncomfortably mean-spirited, at a time when that really isn't what I think anybody wants from Drag Race. It felt curiously ill-judged.

There’s something off about Symone; she’s like a male character straight out of The Wire but in a wig. And yet I can’t take my eyes off her. What a star! :disco:

Tina and Kandy are so unlikable. The latter is giving me a mix of Vanjie and Eureka. :argh:

It was like drama for the contestant and not for the viewers.

I think Tina is really good and I haven’t actually understood the “unlikeable” comments either. She’s no more shady than anyone else, so far.

Kandy looks shit, though. I can get on with a Silky vibe if you are as good as Silky (mostly) was but she ain’t bringing it so far.

Tina has that hauty attitude. I can’t wait for her clash with that other auwul NY queen. I think it might be the highlight of the season.

Silky was really not good at anything (other than being liked by Rupaul)

Yeah, well that's just revisionary bollocks because people hated her.

She was a shit lip syncer, she did well in the acting and comedy challenges and pulled off a couple of strong runway looks. She was never the winner, but to say she wasn't good at "anything" is SHITE.

I love Olivia. She's so charming and all her looks were LOVELY.

I thought this eppy was way better than the first

Symone was really great, and I loved the lip sync

If Symone keeps it up, she's gonna be in my Top 5 VERY SOON. She is quintessential black drag. Episode 2 and already exploding with starpower.

I see they switched from alcohol to cans of Bubbly...not even a glass, straight from the can

Can't stand Tina Bidet or whatever her name is. The rest are more or less likable.

And is this the roughest recent cycle in terms of polish? I don't mind it but the raggedy makeup, looks and wigs does surprise me
On the whole yes, they do seem rougher around the edges than the most recent seasons. Maybe they thought they shouldn't waste too many good queens on (probably) another covid year :eyes:
