S13 E06: Disco-Mentary

Anyway, just cause Kandy is fucking awful (and yes, she is), we're rewriting the script again. There was no way she didn't win that lip-sync and I'm ASTONISHED anyone thinks otherwise. I LOVED Tamisha- she was my absolute favourite this season, but she was without doubt the weakest this week- the runway was dull and the performance was shit. I'd actually have put Utica in the bottom two with her rather than Kandy, to be honest, but I guess that didn't fit the narrative- typical Drag Race. Instead of letting it rumble on for the drama, let's get the two antagonists together as quickly as possible. Stupid.

And yes, Utica. She's just annoying. The sleeping bag dress was a temporary reprieve, but I'm just fed up with the mugging to camera and stupid faces. If there is little more beyond that, I think she's in trouble, but I presume the acting/comedy challenge next week will keep her safe.

I also want to talk about Mik. I'm having trouble getting around the whole "male posturing" thing, which she did throughout the disco number and has done previously, would see other girls read. I also don't get how she hasn't been read for just getting her body out every week. Bizarre so far.

Pleased with the win from Olivia- you could hear from the queens' reaction how popular she is. I do think she was great in the challenge, but I thought the runway dress was TERRIBLE. I don't know they looked past that- it was super basic. Elliott was really good in the challenge, but yes, the dress WAS basic too, but I think better than Olivia's. Tina I don't understand- she was actually fantastic in the challenge, with admittedly weak partners, but the dress was AWFUL. And that cheap-ass wig! Fuck me. I thought Symone was robbed of a top place again- the runway was my favourite, I think and I think she did well in the challenge. Rosé was saved by her performance, because WHAT THE LIVING CUNT was that ruched, boxy HORROR she had on?

Episode wise, it was fun, but they could have done much more. I can't believe it wasn't a 70s disco runway and then they threw away a disco lipsync to have Blu Cantrell? (Which I feel we've had before...have we?). That was annoying.

And as for the moaning about RuPaul questioning them on disco, I don't see a problem at all with that. As my dear @cwej reported earlier, I know plenty about eras I wasn't alive for and, frankly, if you're a fucking drag queen, you really should know a LITTLE about gay history. I'm not asking for them to come out with Lovin', Livin' and Givin', but I Will Survive by Diana Ross? BITCH, PLEASE, SIT THE FUCK DOWN.

What WAS a bit more rubbish was the editing to poke fun at the queens doing it when, one presumes, Ru probably had a full on discussion with Tamisha about disco with far more satisfactory answers. But this is Drag Race, what do you expect.
 
And don't get me started on "She's dead". Disrespectful fucking bitch. She should have been sent home just for that.
 
Oh, and yes, the SHEER GRACE of Tamisha throughout all of that exit. WHAT A WOMAN.

She'll be back for All Stars and feels like a queen who will really grow.

I've seen so many BABY GAYS complaining that the references are 'out of date', but it was framed as a documentary, clearly meant to be a bit of gay history or whatever. It's not like they haven't had plenty of Real Housewives and Kardashians themed challenges.
 
Kandy won the lipsynch, the house down boots. She gave us hysterical trash that even Blu herself couldn't muster.

Let's be real - we liked Tamisha's personality, not her drag. Her lewks was dated, and her health issues meant she just couldn't keep up. Even Charlie Hydes gave us better lewks and more engaging performances. As harsh as it is to say, I think Drag Race is really hard after a certain age.
 
This is why I’m not sure what Tamisha would bring to an All Stars season, even though I’d love to see her win the whole thing. :(


But now that Mother Tamisha is gone, I’m ready for the next phase; ie some major drama between the Mean Girls and Rosé & Denali (#teamrosédenali). Don’t think that will happen though.
 
I really disagree on the lip sync. Tamisha was actually performing the song - Kandy was just flopping gracelessly around the stage while clearly not knowing any of the words.

Can't believe I've entered into a KANDY MUSE defence, when I can't stand her and don't think THAT much of her as a queen either... :D

Honestly no! I've seen big girls perform the shit out of lip syncs. Latrice and Darienne for example were both KILLER lip syncers. I really just thought Kandy was shit. None of her moves felt in any way connected to the song and it all just seemed messy and hysterical. I much preferred Tamisha's more poised approach.

Obviously it's just a personal taste thing so we'll have to agree to disagree.
 
Hit 'Em Up Style is really a fantastic lip sync selection. It says a lot about straights that they made Breathe Blu's "signature" hit, when she had such a trashy shopping anthem in her catalogue.

I don't think it IS taste though. I don't LIKE her. I do feel you're just blinded by your dislike of her. It's the same way someone the other day (not you) was rounding on Silky for being talentless and rubbish throughout...when that wasn't her narrative AT ALL.

It's a fantastic song and much better than Breathe, which I never REALLY understood. One of the first songs I EVER downloaded as well!
 
I enjoyed that Kandy went down the upset/crying route with the climax of the song, as it brought to mind Blu's strangely downturned mouth while doing the adlibs in the music video.
 
To break it down: Tamisha won the first part of the lip sync, but underperformed in the end by not doing the crying bit at the end.

I'm sure she's a decent name in her local scene, but there's absolutely nothing to get excited about there from me - which is more offensive to me as a viewer than somebody MESSY like Kandy Muse (who I really don't hate half as much as the rest of the internet seems to :D )
 
Even though I can't deal with Kandy Muse GABBING ON or disrespecting the QUEEN OF DISCO, I did think she was slightly better in the lipsync (minus lying down for a bit) AND that her look on the runway was quite good.

I was surprised Gottmik avoided the bottom two. She was just as bad as, if not worse than, Kandy in the challenge, and her runway look was the kind of thing anyone with an ounce of BODY FAT would get read to filth for. Check your TWINK PRIVILEGE.
 
Oh so Tamisha’s little black dress was supposed to be stoned but she left the stones at home!

The 100% lipsync was iconic but she’s been fading since.
 
The mega Hit 'Em up Style (Oops!) is a cheap thrill EV3 would have killed for and badly needed. Breathe is better, not that I'm here for either of 'em (eek!)

KM bear (that's a weak Kylie joke, not a fat joke) actually got critiqued quite sharply this episode, so let's see how well she rises to the challenge. She's not going to get a plain sale I don't think.
