S13 E09: Snatch Game

That is the worst Snatch Game I've seen, I was PRAYING for it to end. That's such a shame, I don't think the format is wrong, just this bunch were crap. The tops were good, but I think even the safe ones (except Simone) would've got the BOOT edit on any other season (except maybe S11).

Nobody listened to ANY advice either :D Elliott saying "You don't get anywhere from not taking risks" was a sound philosophy, just sadly missing out that you can also bomb. It wasn't even a risk, it was just picking something Ru loves and not having ANY JOKES AT ALL! Even when she was leaving it was clear she STILL didn't see what went wrong!
 
Annoyingly Gottmik was pretty good - not that I hoped they would fail, but because I had "Paris is crashing and burning" and "Paris is boring" zingers waiting that I couldn't use :( Please like this post for more content
 
Mik and Denali were the funniest. Neither will end up in the hall of fame of memorable snatch perfs though. What a shit season.
 
I think this episode ”peaked” when we were given that Tina ass shake horror moment.
 
OK let's do this.

1) Rosé - Yes, I think I'm stanning, loved the runway, those thorns :disco:. Given what we know about Ru loving Lawrence's accent, I wondered if this would be the win, but a pretty safe 2nd I guess. I don't really think she's going to win for some reason, but I want her to the end.

2) Denali - Wasn't that into the Snatch Game but she went all in, so that's great. Liked the runway, I thought it wasn't a gag but super cute, and I'm glad she got the skating in finally.

3) Gottmik - Oof, how did THIS happen? I really want Mik to ditch the Mean Girls and be with Rose and Denali. I didn't love the runway beyond the pin, but I can see it worked well.

4) Symone - Kind of feeling like she's coasting now, the one-woman Black History Month was great. That being SAID, I didn't like the silhouette on the runway, that fascinator seemed like it was going to fall. And Symone as Symone as Harriet Tubman was... alright.

5) Olivia Lux - Is it me just adding "looking like a million BUCKS" at the end of her name? Well, she's lovely but ... choices! She's funny too, so what the fuck happened? I hated those gloves too.

6) Elliott - A bit of a shame, I wanted Olivia to stay so I was waiting for Elliott v Utica (goodbye Utica), what the fuck? Did they edit out all the moves? What a weird way to go out. Where were those risks? I'm going to miss her runways, her weird thumb head and that cackle.

7) Kandy - Well this I'm not that fussed about any of the bottom 3 now, so here we are. At least she talked less today, and she didn't win by just being Kandy.

8) Utica - What a BOOT - in what dimension was Bob Ross a good idea, given what happened? And no sense that she made a mistake either. It's sort of past deluded to psychotic now. Where are the jokes? Where are the bodies? That sort of drama in Untucked too, and :D @ Rosé saying she feels like there's some evil shady part of her. I just remember Lucille say she sensed evil in Rosé and it took me there.

9) Tina - UGH I need to get rid of several of these queens :D At least Kandy did give me a good laugh in Untucked, totally deadpan serious saying that Tina had a natural comedy FACE! :D That runway was compost, like the less interesting version of Sister Sister's "They've found a body". Isn't she supposed to be a comedy queen?
 
I struggle to judge Rosé’s performance objectively in a world where Psychobitches exists.

Boring episode.

I find Gottmik's personality increasingly grating, but she was the clear top in a weak field. Rose and Symone both comfortable top three. Everyone else was varying shades of dire.

Not that it's exactly a mystic meg moment, but I feel grimly gratified that I called exactly what the talentless Kandy was going to do. I do begrudgingly accept that it was a safe performance compared to Utica's utter disaster and the boring flops from Elliott and Olivia though.

As for Tina, clearly at this point she is just deadwood. Every opportunity to show her supposed 'comedy genius' and she's fallen completely flat. That Richard Simmons was just sad. Talk about desperation reeking from every pore...
 
Rose as Michelle Gomez on Psychobitches was really fucking brilliant!
 
Not sure what Moopy's thinking, but that was the best snatch game for years. Rose, Denali and JVS whoever that was were all brilliant. The Paris Hilton was a classic for the ages.
 
When she said "I'll just stick with what I know... really huge cocks" or whatever, I was in tears.
 
I thought it was a decent Snatch Game. The problem is I can’t warm up to Gotmik so I’m not that invested in them winning but it was a good Paris Hilton.

Symone just kinda did herself (not that there are any recordings of Hariett) but she was funny enough.

Kandi and Tina were both shit. Kandi was as everyone said just playing herself. Tina changed from her usual ketchup and mustard colors on the runway and replaced it with the color of runny shit.

Poor Utica but also that was abysmal. I think Ru is losing patience with her. At this point I see the top 4 as Rosé, Symone, Gotmik and Olivia.
 
I thought it was pretty weak overall, with 2 obvious standouts. My overall ranking with relative positions based on how many spaces I've left between them...

1 Rosé - for me easily the winner. Great runway look and a much more interesting choice than Paris Hilton which she pulled off well.


2 Gottmik - easily 2nd place, but like I say, Paris is a bit safe and obvious. What she did, she did well and her runway look was good. I do struggle to warm to her generally thought.







3 Symone - I'd have moved her up to 3rd for the statement and message she was putting across throughout. Again a risky choice that she did fairly well considering what it could have been like.
4 Denali - decent attempt but JVN is an even bigger character than she portrayed. How can you caricature someone in a way that is smaller than their real personality?










5 Kandi
6 Tina - both of these were just completely forgettable both in Snatch Game and on runway






7 Elliott with Two Ts - honestly thought her Snatch Game was better than both the other 2 (though only marginally). Her lip sync was really dead though
8 Utica - ridiculously dumb choice of Snatch Game. I hate when they do men generally (unless it is a really camp man). It goes against the whole essence of what most of the audience are looking for. The look was fairly good though.
9 Olivia - I did wonder at the time if the improv thing was a bit of a fluke and I still think it might have been - up to that episode, I'd forgotten who she even was - and of course she did an improv that required zero talking. Clearly she doesn't have the quick-wit to come up with any kind of funny responses - Rose did the best joke about her character, which just came across as an absolute read of how bad she was doing. Definitely should have been bottom 2 and that weird moment where they showed the other queens rooting for her at the back of the stage was very strange.


So yeah, 2 good performances, 2 OK ones and 5 terrible ones really.
 
I really can't stomach Kandy Muse anymore. Not knowing Queen Mary of Scots and saying "Ireland accent" was so fucking ignorant and rude. And yet the show played it up like it was 'cute'.
 
Well I loved that snatch game, not sure what everyone's moaning about. Overall I'd say it was better than the recent UK one and several rungs higher than some of the recent US seasons. Maybe though because Porkchop and Raven seemed to energise it and really played along.

Not a Gottmik fan either but that was great and I feel like people are underselling it tbh. She was funny with every answer and actually super clever and quick at times. I loved the voice changing at the start. Well deserved.

With Rosé you knew from day one she'd do Scottish, and playing Mary as someone who swore a lot could easily have been basic. It worked though.

Tina was fine?! Not super LOL but I thought it was mildly amusing.

Symone started SUPERB and cracked me up, fell off a cliff a bit, then they rarely went back to her, but another decent one. Denali was strong too.

It was basically most of the bottom row who fucked up. Kandi played herself which is ridiculous now, but even she had a good line or two.

Eliott's time was up, Olivia was nothingy rather than outright dreadful and Utica was possibly one of the worst snatch games ever. Poor bitch! But absolutely won that lip sync.

The mini challenges like this increasingly annoy me - unless it's the reading or puppet one, you rarely get to see who does what. A quick flash of people fannying around for two seconds before onto the next. It's always a mess to watch and filmed in such a way like the viewer isn't invited. Pointless.

I hate you @ButterTart and you've earned your Latvian Wolves pain. You made me think the rattlesnake edit on Utica in last week's "next time..." clip meant the opposite. Well, it did not, did it? :(

Never mind, I'm over that bitch now. Amazing runways, very likeable (until this week, but who knows, edits etc). But she's had her chance. Same for Utica.
 
HOWEVER next week screams the classic, potential win for Utica before being promptly sent home the week after.

I was just going off the usual manipulative editing :D

Utica was crap, but she at least did a character which is more than Kandy managed.
 
Because I'm sick inside, I'm honestly going to take the time at some point to go through every "next time..." clip and see how often it accurately paints a picture or actively deceives.

The next one tells us nothing I notice.
 
I love Fascinated, but know it as the 90s ropey single by Lisa B. Elliott did not know the words.

Symone not one of the tops? I think not. Rose was pure dead coasting, but the accent really does have an effect on many people outside of the UK.

Uttica looks like a lanky version of that muscled Emerdale guy. Her days seem numbered unless she breaks out of this current downward Thorgy style narrative.

Yes it was clearly Psychobitches but yeah, it's a reference that very few Americans would have. Still think it was a much braver and more interesting choice than another Paris Hilton.

Snatch Game itself was meh though. Some really poor performances were edited better to make it look like it wasn’t, but there was no hiding it. I didn’t even think Paris was all that.
 
Paris was fine (not amazing but relatively was good) but it was weird how we got unanimous hilarity for 'sucking dick' when basically that's what Elliott did for Rue the whole way through and got tumbleweed. Like 'do you have a type?' 'Men'...on another year with a different queen they'd have edited that as the funniest response of ALL TIME. I wish we weren't told what to find funny so much on there.
 
Paris Hilton was definitely funny, but she is somewhat of a cop-out choice. I'm not saying she's a surefire success, but she's definitely 'low hanging fruit' comedy for gays and drag.

The problem was he literally made the same joke every time.

I agree, Paris wasn’t ALL THAT, but it at least had a bit of variety. Rue was just “men”, “gentlemen callers” and “gentlemen callers” again. It was shit.
