Sabrina Carpenter - Espresso / Please x3 / Short n Sweet (album)

If there’s one thing you can rely it’s the world going a bit crazy for a mild disco bop. Which begs the question, why don’t you see more of them? I would say generic EDM or pop-house / pop- trance by the pop artists outnumbers midtempo grooves by about 20 to 1 if not more.

Cause they all sound the fucking same! :(

I’m going to assume Taylor shifted some solid physicals if Sabrina was 6.5k ahead during the week and streaming better.

Just saw she did 16.5k physicals :o

Bugger me that is impressive. But thank god it wasn’t enough, would feel like far too much of an unfair #1.

She's a strange one for me, I know she can sing but I've watched many live performances including the SNL one and is she just really good or is it TRICKERY all around?? I'm not saying she mimes or uses auto-tune, but it sounds like she's got an army of backing singers during the choruses. I wish we get some performances in the future of just her without so many vocal layers.

Oh the chorus clearly has backing on it, but that’s pretty standard. The verses etc are live and she sounds solid.

The BBC bookers like "fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on us."

I only found out yesterday that she's been around for ages. I was on Discogs and people are paying silly money for a 7" on sparkly vinyl so I had a butchers and her first single was 2016! I genuine thought she's turned up in the last year or so.

Yeah I did a wiki and saw she’s been releasing for like a decade, which was not what I expected.

Her joining Coldplay to perform ‘Magic’ at the Big Weekend felt SUPER awkward. She handled it reasonably well, vocally, but it had vibes of someone who’d been handed the lyrics 30 minutes before being shoved on-stage.

Emails I Can’t Send is a good little pop album, but I’ve never ventured further back than that.

This is still #1 on Spotify with about a 20% lead, so looking like a fifth week at #1 given it’s also #1 in the other streaming platforms.

Will be interesting if it can avoid ACR if we have a nice weekend coming up or whether it gets hit in about three weeks straight away.

Music Week

Espresso is No.1 for the fifth straight week for Sabrina Carpenter but has the smallest sale of its reign, with consumption down 8.18% to 66,935 units. (150 CDs, 1,258 digital downloads, 65,527 sales-equivalent streams). It should receive a small boost when released on 7-inch brown vinyl and cassette next week, though they are very limited and prohibitively priced at £12.99 and £10.99 respectively, even before postage is factored in.

This will also probably help for next week

What's her previous music been like? Worth checking out?

Espresso is 10/10 NUFD (not up for debate)

Espresso is pleasant but you can definitely sing Say So over it. I had to check if it actually wasn't Doja.

Hopefully they have one more huge track in the wings. If they can’t launch with that after Espresso then the album should do very well for her.
