Saint Etienne: International (and new single: Glad)

*slaps forehead* So they did. Missed it, forgot.

I do also take the point re: Boxette etc - it's very difficult to keep a large catalogue in some level of availability without landing yourself with a stock mountain or feeling as if you're double dipping and making life harder for your fans than it needs to be. Most labels don't give a monkeys about such matters so bless 'em for caring.

I agree, but their absolute insistence on making nearly everything they do limited has been so annoying and difficult to keep up with as well. The latest is that they've had trouble fulfilling international orders of International, particularly the US, because of Trump's annoying tariff/ custom business. So they've decided to issue a free 7" EP to all US peeps who have had delayed orders as a way of saying sorry/ thank you for waiting.~

I mean, LOVELY, but COME THE FUCK ON! I'm hopeful they print a few hundred more and eventually pop them in their store, but they really do make it HARD WORK sometimes.

As I've said before I simply can't be BOTHERED so if I can't EASILY BUY SOMETHING I'll just wait for it to turn up on FILE SHARING

I mean I understand that SECURING A RARITY like you used to in the OLD DAYS is part of their NOSTALGIC THING but THOSE TIMES HAVE GONE

But they clearly haven't, judging by the way they're able to secure sell-outs on just about everything they release.

I mean, I bought a CD copy of an album of their offcuts yesterday which I will NEVER PLAY just because, and there's FAR WORSE LOONS THAN ME!

I've said it before, but I'll say it again- the more irritating thing for me nowadays is the lack of stuff on streaming. There are so many tracks that are CD-exclusive on this campaign and me, a die-hard fan, still hasn't listened to them because they're not readily available and I no longer have a cd player.

Maybe I'll get around to that this weekend...

I get trying to pull people back to physical media, especially when it's so ingrained in their own experience of music and who they are (I'm less than 10 years younger than them so I absolutely get it) but sometimes a ship has just sailed. I noted Rosalia has 3 songs only on the physical release of her album which I found interesting.

And this I absolutely love. Don't get me started on vinyl albums that have a blank side or a side with a fucking ETCHING on.

Which arse was it who did a double album with 2 etched sides? I'm sure I didn;t dream this...

OT: I dreamt last night I was supervising Janey Lee Grace (whose book I’m reading as a quick read) in a call centre and she told me they’re opening the tour with Join Our Club and closing it with Glad next year. You read it here first.

If they actually chose to FINALLY oust He’s on the Phone as their perennial closer, I will be overjoyed, but I feel it’s rather unlikely on their last hurrah.

I really did want them to come to Portsmouth- they haven't been since 93 I think! A hometown gig would have been such a good send off.

Anyway, planning to go to the lot. Might need to be strategic about tickets to try and get the best- anyone know if the venues near them have standing? Might be worth asking some of you lot to buy me a ticket for various gigs if you're planning to go, so let me know if so! Worried already this will be a bit of a bun fight across nine gigs...

The Beacon here sometimes removes the front section of stalls - it did for Self Esteem's three nights, but as you know didn't for Kim Wilde for example.

SWG3 is completely standing.

I've tried signing up for their mailing list, but the email to confirm hasn't arrived. Oh I'm sure I'll be fine on the 5th.

It's quite a big venue for Saint Etienne to be fair...

I'm going to need a co-ordinated approach to manage all this I feel

I was trying to think if they had played there before. When I saw them here many moons ago it was in the Student Union. Was that in your time here?

I didn't see them there and that sounds quite early days...I wasn't in Bristol until '96, by which time I presume they were too "big" for SU gigs?

Mr L tells me he thinks it was about '93. It's another one of those gigs that we both went to before we knew each other.

They played Portsmouth in 93 too- on South Parade Pier. It was before I was onboard, though, so never went. 1998 was my first gig- again, in Portsmouth.

New Century @ Manc was all standing for the last gig I went to there. Not sure if ALL concerts are standing only.

Happy to get your ticket for that date @Sheena

Only if we get to dance down the front together, love :disco:

Ooh Dublin’s on there which is the most convenient but is also on a Tuesday which isn’t ideal (I know somewhere has to be on a weekday) so will think about if I prefer a convenient gig, a weekend one or both.

The Dublin venue is normally seated but they do remove seats from the stalls area for standing gigs so you would not know until they go on sale.

Whilst I dont know my exact plans now (though I can’t imagine not going to Dublin) I don’t mind trying to get you a ticket for Dublin @Sheena if it frees you up to try other venues, just confirm nearer the time that you deffo want one.

Friday night at the Roundhouse sounds pretty good. The main floor has always been standing at gigs I have been to there.

Decent sized venue so hopefully getting tickets won't be too painful. Happy to pick up for you @Sheena if you want.

Yes please- thank you!

Gradually ticking these off :D

Brighton has a paid after party after it- wonder if they're doing that elsewhere.

Is that becoming A THING now? Self Esteem had one every night here as well. As well as two support acts. It was more like a mini festival, and all for £45.

They've often had after parties but they weren't THAT public facing and certainly never charged. I used to just get access because I went to everything and they vaguely knew me. I guess the final tour makes that a bit more of a "thing"- they're not the sort of band that would ever make you pay for a meet and greet, for example.

Did you make a decision,@BoysForSeles ? Trying to sort out my options ahead of tomorrow!

(And if anyone else who hasn’t said anything above is getting tickets and wouldn’t mind, please let me know so I can concentrate on other venues!

Money can be transferred same day etc…YOU KNOW I’M GOOD FOR IT, LOVES!)

I’m in a team meeting at 9.30 but am deffo going to try and get some Dublin tickets just to have the option so absolutely don’t mind picking one up for you regardless if successful. If there’s no standing in the venue or if all standing goes super quick do you want a seated one or is it just standing you’re interested in?

You all got the presale links?

Annoyingly it’ll be through ticketmaster which will no doubt be more expensive than dice adding on fees etc

Yeah I got an email yesterday, I signed up to the list quite late. Looks to be both a venue and artist presale on tomorrow for the one I’m trying for.
