Oscar-nominated actor Sally Kirkland dies aged 84, days after entering hospice care

Oscar nominated and Gold Globe winning actress who I best know for her mortifying appearance in Season 5 of The Simple Life.

Ah sad. She had the best ever I've just lost an Oscar, break out into a fake smile face. Never heard of the film she was nominated for though.

I've never seen the film either, but the story of how she got the nomination is quite interesting. It was a tiny indie film with no studio support, which got middling reviews and made no money. But she galvanised a bunch of her celebrity friends to campaign on her behalf and managed to scam herself in, sort of like Andrea Riseborough three decades earlier.
