Surely this is either going to die on its arse or do Adele-like numbers? Those are the only reasonable trajectories.
 
I think Adele like numbers is way out of the question, just looking at the drop off between the first two albums.

I think it'll do decently enough. By the standard of album sales these days, anyway. I just hope I don't have to hear him yelping over the radio too frequently.
 
I know he's had some big songs recently, but the last album didn't really have much legs did it?
 
If he's gonna do dance I'm ok with that. Also I don't want to see him.

It was the #3 album of 2017, #21 of 2018 and sold over 600k, so I think that qualifies it as a success.
 
I suppose it is too much to ask for something more like Promises, which does not sound like Sam Smith. Dancing With a Stranger is a good song, but very much is his voice singing half of it.

I imagine the singles may do well but can't see Sam goes dance diva flying albums wise.
 
I would fairly confidently say it won't do Adele-like numbers. I think he's probably now moved a bit TOO FAR in both image and sound from the very middle of the road where his biggest success lay.

He's still a relatively safe sell and actually I think it's great that he's been really out there with his persona when you know behind-the-scenes, the label would have been FRETTING about their new housewives' favourite posing in high heels. It would still not surprise me if there had been an immense pressure on him not to do stuff like that.
 
I’m actually really here for Sam Smith becoming the new George Michael. His commercial roots were in dance music ANYWAY and Promises and DWAS were both varying shades of great/good.

I’m here for him as the cuddly *non-binary* Rylan in heels also. Anything that makes the braindead housewives love the gays even more is only a good thing in my book.
 
I am here for some more edgy dancy stuff. I loved Dancing with a Stranger and Promises.
Not a massive fan of him though - the Brits performance is stuck in my mind.
He seems to be turning into a but of a solo Years and Years, which is no bad thing if he brings MAX TRACKS like them
 
Years and Years are great. Even Olly doesn't annoy me as much... he appears to have developed self awareness.
 
Yeah Years&Years are good - the first album is sublime. Loving remixes of Shine and Eyes Shut atm
 
I need to Spotify the second album never really got stuck in with it apart from the singles
 
I like Years & Years but I still feel like they don’t QUITE get themselves.

Across the two albums, there’s a VERY GOOD one somewhere in the middle.
 
I like Y&Y. I think of them as Erasure for the millennials. Kind of sort of. And let's face it, back in those days, acts were allowed at least a couple of albums to fully get up to speed. Y&Y's masterpiece(s) is/are still to come.

I think Sam's conception of dance music DIFFERS in a great level from mine.

I mean, either record your own Club Banger Nation or GET OUT. I bet it'll be full of middling dance pop like "...Stranger" and the US will be like omg this is way too upbeat you need to slow down.

I think that is what they call feeling yourself.

I really like the chorus, he is actually quite restrained on it. The drop bit did make me :D the first time it came in.
