B. We're not dull like him
C. We don't think we're being fierce when we're not because we actually ARE fierce
D. He has a look of 'messy bottom about him. We don't.

He’s literally morphing into VoR.

Everything about this as a package is horrible. And I can’t really see who it would appeal to. There are other (trendier) acts doing this much better and the braindeads are not here for dance breakdowns.
 
There is perhaps one too many ideas going on in the video but I like it a lot - there's nothing even remotely "horrible" or a "car crash" about it, jesus. The choreography is very effective and the lighting in the black room setup is just gorgeous.

I think a lot of gays have particular ideas about whether Sam Smith is performing queerness in a way they like, or whether (god forbid) he is deemed attractive enough to be feeling himself in the way he is here (if this was Shawn Mendes everybody would be creaming themselves something rotten) - it's all a bit gross really. There's a lot of toxic "not our kind of gay" shit in our (supposed) community. You don't have to fancy him, he's not being positioned as a sex god, watch porn if that's what you want. Good on him for being confident, for being as flamboyant as he feels like being, song's good, video's great and a win for gay imagery in the mainstream.
 
I had thought he couldn't do much worse than his soppy ballads with terrible attempts at vocal trills and runs but this is a new low on several levels.

There's just something about his tone that is just deeply, deeply unpleasant, almost irrespective of the song.
 
I do think the video is good. But it's wasted on a bland song and an increasingly irritating voice.

Oh please, Jark bbz, I am the last person to criticise anyone’s queerness! It’s just the shit song, poorly executed video and honky vox I can’t bear. This whole idea that he’s free and being himself is utter tosh - he looks so uncomfortable and it’s all a bit try hard and embarrassing.

Incidentally it was just on the radio in the dentist (and still dreadful). I came straight out and nipped into Greggs for a vegan sausage roll - couldn’t tell the difference!

I wanted to tell her that her boyfriend is much hotter, but judged it inappropriate.
 
He's the least natural dancer in a video since Gary Barlow, I'll tell you that.

I've only just recovered onto reasonable ground with VoR. I'm sure I'll cock it up again, but it certainly won't be over SAM FUCKING SMITH.
 
After a slightly slow start this is going great on streaming now. Up to 8 on Spotify global, should debut at 12 or 13 in the UK tomorrow and somewhere similar on the Hot 100.
 
Up to #7 in the UK this week :disco: thank god! I don't think I could cope with this hot sultry gem languishing outside the top 10. Just doing OK in the US - #29 so far.
 
I've not exactly followed Sam Smith's career very closely but this and "Dancing With A Stranger" are genuine corkers.

I was about to say "what a bunch of fucking bitches" in this thread but then the last reply is alarmingly positive. I know we're all supposed to hate him apparently but this song is nothing less than a (sultry) stunner.

I mean I'm not particularly fond of him either but credit where it's due. Easily one of the songs of the year for me which I did not expect. It's utterly gorgeous.

I think @Jark is on board too :D

The general aversion to Sam Smith is quite interesting and seems to boil down to lots of different factors:

- Bland/shit first album
- Bland/shit in general
- Too fat
- Too ugly
- Not gay in the right way
- That Oscars speech

The first album passed me by and what I heard of it didn't interest me at all. Credit where it's due though, this recent stuff is excellent.
 
It's the voice that I've never been able to cope with.

I know technically it's probably 'brilliant' or whatever, but the whiny vocals of 'La La La', 'Money on My Mind', ‘Too Good at Goodbyes’ etc are just like nails down a blackboard for me.
