My friend and I got ASSAULTED IN THE FACE with a BUNCH OF SUNFLOWERS on the night bus last night. She has a cut lip. Very much rethinking the possibility of moving to East London

I don’t understand this. Were they trying to sell you them, or were they using sunflowers as a weapon?

It's rained so much here in the past 24 hours (and the next 24h) that we're under flood warning for the weekend 🤗

LOVELY.

I spent a lovely hour this morning attaching bubblewrap bumpers to the edges of the steps leading up from the garden to the back door with gaffer tape (the edges are sharp like flagstones). Ridley's back legs are quite weak now and he's having trouble lifting his back paws up high enough when he comes up the steps so the tops of his back paws have been hitting the edge of the steps which must hurt. He hasn't squeaked or anything but just the thought that it might be hurting him was enough for me to come up with this ingenious fix. It'll probably all fall off at the first heavy rain ...

If he'd let me I'd pick him up and carry him in myself but I tried it yesterday and he was highly unimpressed, I got a proper nasty snarly growl for my efforts.

I remember my old girl struggled for quite a while before she passed. She started to struggle to get on to her seat on the couch and struggled on until her back legs stopped her going up completely. I wasn’t able to lift her but my son tried a few times and she would let out this almighty squeal, and then preferred to just lie in her dog bed which was dormant for many years. They are very proud, and I suppose animal instincts kick in. She was always quite happy to get lifted in and out of the car for some strange reason, but anywhere else would rather plod on herself.

That's just how Ridley is. He tried getting on the sofa with me last night but his back legs couldn't manage it and I wasn't quick enough to give him a shove, he's booked in at the vets but not until 5th September unless they can squeeze me in on Thursday (I have to ring at 8.30am). My usual vet is on compassionate leave for the foreseeable future, secondary vet retired in March but he's doing one day a week while current vet is off because they're having terrible trouble finding locum vets, another Brexit bonus, so they've only got one full-time vet at the moment.

We can't take him for walks anymore because he's legs akimbo on the floor within three houses away but he's still OK pottering around in the house. He's still very much his old self, not crying or panting or any signs that he's in pain but I'm having trouble getting him to eat so I've bought the expensive 100g pouches of his favourite food and am padding them out with fish fingers, smoked salmon and burgers instead of mixer biscuit because those are his favourite human foods. To be honest I think there's something more serious going on inside him, the weight has fallen off him and you can see his spine. Mr F and I have resigned ourselves that he doesn't have long left, probably only a matter of weeks. :(

He does sound like he is struggling BUT that doesn’t mean it’s his time. I don’t want to fill you with false hope and can only give advice from my experience with my pets. My dog was always probably slightly overweight and loved her food, but was always well exercised and healthy other than arthritis from 6. Like Ridley she had joint problems from a young age, but carried on regardless. When she got to a point where she was struggling when she got to around 12, she also started eating less and wouldn’t eat dog food and would only eat what we ate. She started to lose weight rapidly, but it meant she could still walk, rather than probably being unable to walk at all with the extra timber. She still went on very short walks, but was happy and comfortable for a couple of years after. I honestly know how you feel and I was the same thinking the end was nigh for a long time before it was her actual time. Try and think positively as I wish I did with her instead of looking at her and crying and saying goodbye every time I took her to the vet who would always say there is life in the old dog yet.

Was that worth the WAIT? It’s a list of STARLETS that have graced the bar I’m in.

SuRiE is going to be furious when she finds out that they have capitalised her entire name.

So happy for her to take on a second job at the Sitges branch of Pizza Express.
