Schlagerfjolla
Now that we've withdrawn, it's time for a trip down the memory lane. This is by far the biggest domestic classic after independence, also due to how it won EMA, our NF back then. Tl;dr - the televote crashed and there was a delay in getting the final result. Eventually, there was one, with Karmen Stavec (our 2003) entrant winning the televote by a landslide, but because of the juries downvoting her, she still lost and Sestre won and then there were protests on the streets both by the Catholic crowd, who claimed RTVSLO was "pushing woke agenda to the masses" and counter-protests by the LGBT+ friendly crowd, who claimed Slovenia was stuck in the past and that it was time for something new. Also our parliament got involved and EU weighed in, deeming us unsuitable to join (we did join in 2004) and we made the news on the BBC and CNN. Eventually, it all calmed down, people realised that the song was a banger and at least for a year, Sestre became household name and also released an album. They eventually faded away, but they still reunite from time to time and their song is now a modern classic in Slovenia and a party/karaoke staple.
This was Karmen Stavec's NF entry btw.
