Certainly one of the most iconic videos of the 90s, the song felt slightly forgotten by the masses until Cher Lloyd's performance of it on X Factor a few years ago. It managed to re-chart after her performance, probably because it still sounds pretty unique today.

TEN TEN TEN

It scared the shit out of me as a child. I remember listening to it on a little walkman under the duvet. :D

I love the eyeroll she does towards the end when the other girl grabs the guy. :D

I'd never seen the F&S pisstake before. :D fantastic

I'm one of those lucky people that only got to know the song because of Cher. At least she was useful for something! Absolutely stunning 10/10.

What's up with the audio in the F&S skit? If it wasn't for the video I would never recognize the song under those vocals. :D

Another 10/10- that's all I'm giving out at the moment- from a pretty close to 10/10 album for me. Though again, still not their best- there's FAR better else over the two albums, not least "You're History"

Marcella has a solo song called If from Dancing Madly Sideways that's slightly similar, but it really is unique (especially Siobhan's part in total contrast to Marcy's). Goodbye Cruel World, Stay and You're History are my favourites.

I LOVE I Can Drive. I also loved Marcella's Jewel album and there's a few choice cuts from her later work too.

What is the song where Siobhan actually takes the piss out of Marcy's vocal style?

Jewel has some good songs (and it certainly sounds like more money was thrown at it), but Feeler was better. I Believe is such a classic.

It ranked #3 or so in Moopy's All Time Greatest Songs 2011 edition fresh off the Cher Lloyd performance. :disco:

French & Saunders weren't the only ones to do a tribute to it. Yes, it is him.

Stay is pretty high up there with the best pop records of the entire Nineties, I reckon. That instrumental bit going into that shriek of anguish is dramatic grandeur distilled to its most potent form. I've long meant to check them out more thoroughly.

Also I personally can't argue with:

You're HISTORY
Like a BEAT UP CAR! Like an old film star!

I watched the video for Goodbye Cruel World recently. It really is a work of art.

I can kind of understand why Siobhan hated Stay, in the way Peterson, Steele, Peterson hated Eternal Flame, but it is a glorious song.

I love the way she sneers "you're NOTHING new".

And I agree about the Goodbye Cruel World video - their friction was electric.

Siobhan's such a dick. It's a shame she can't just appreciate and enjoy Stay for what it is - her one true masterpiece.

How can she? She can't exactly sing it. What should she do for 3 minutes - get her Marcy darts board out on stage until it's her bit? :D

I didn't say she should perform it, but there's no need to behave like a stupid child at her age. I think she's insufferable and I have to avoid ever watching her interviews or it ruins the music for me!

She has mental health issues - it's not her fault she has a bad attitude, it's Marcy's for being so talented. Marcy really could have kept that song for herself (Siobhan's part is both cringe-worthy and magnificent), but I guess writing it with Dave Stewart would have made that a bit tricky.

What are you rabbiting on about?

I think she's a wee bit conflicted with her attitude to both her bands in general, that's about it. She's out of order lashing out at Marcella all the time - it seems there's always a dig to be made when it's entirely unprovoked.

I like the story that Siobhan was absolutely shitfaced in that video. It seems contempt for the song was there from early on.

Siobhan's contribution to Stay may be small, but it absolutely MAKES the song. It'd just be a bit of a dull dirge if it was all Marcella.

And Marcy's contribution on the single version turns Run Silent, Run Deep into something quite euphoric. Run Silent wasn't on the the Best Of - the build in 2:40 to 3:00 isn't on the album version.

Oh well, no matter how bad she may have been, she's charting higher than Melanie C who performed to an audience nearly twice as big.

They don't usually do their own songs do they?

And Marcella definitely SHOULDN'T have. Stay is not a friendly song for any 73 year old to attempt.

No they don't i'm not sure but A-ha Morten was the only one i remember

Did they not get Tiffany to do ‘I Think We’re Alone Now’ after being unmasked?

That was a deeply bizarre version of ‘Stay’ anyway. I don’t know why they decided it was a good idea for her to do four lines, one of which was Siobhan’s, from entirely different parts of the song.
