Shazam! Fury of the Gods

So this is flopping. Probably due to the fact that it's just one of the already-filmed DC movies that they need to get out of the way before James Gunn takes over, but also he is kind of a second-rate character I suppose?

ANYWAY I THOUGHT IT WAS GREAT

I laughed more at this than any superhero film since Ragnarok - the scene with Helen Mirren reading the letter in particular had me AUDIBLY LAUGHING OUT LOUD which I very rarely do at the cinema.

The actor who plays Freddie is excellent, Zachary Levi is very good (ignoring the obvious) and the family of superheroes are varying degrees of

Other than one EGREGIOUS/SICKENING bit of product placement, I thought it was TERRIFIC!

You know I really bloody enjoyed this. It’s about 15-20 minutes too long, as was the first. But utterly full of charm.

This was the most fun I've had in the cinema this year and by far the best DC film since, well, the first Shazam!

I liked it and I'm honestly sad to see this version of the DCU go. Sure it had a lot of flaws but also a lot of things I liked with Captain Marvel Shazam among them.

I also found it interesting to see Lucy Liu of all people playing a basically 'dumb muscle' type bad guy.
