Shame the other two girls ran their races in the heat but that was fun. Hopefully schedules are workable for Keely especially to dip in again in the future when some of the other key players are around too.

What a thrilling session though. And as outstanding as Keely was, it still felt like the least exciting gold of the three.
 
This was the first I got the chance to watch today, great performances from the GB women today and an all around entertaining session.

That first leg really fucked up the women’s relay good and proper.

I must check the session programmes for the Europeans in August, there’s no real reason I can’t get over for my first in person track event really. Unfortunately the final weekend is already sold out.

I know, if Keely could just have been a bit closer...

A shame but McHugh ran very well this morning on the last leg and was the stand out of the four. Maybe lead off is not her spot.

I think this. You can only change two between heat and final so they had no choice but to pick the two best from the heats. I guess they were keeping Yemi Mary John back as a replacement but both Keely and Dina decided to go for it.

Such a shame as if Tess McHugh had run well, that would have been an incredible finish. Dina ran amazingly well too,
 
They showed Yemi in the warm up area with the team this morning, but I wonder whether she was 100%. She didn't look convincing in her individual heat.

There’s something dodgy about that race. Everyone runs PBs by a mile and that other guy under 20 in second ain’t ever replicating it…

I thought so too but thought maybe i just wasn’t familiar enough with the field. Must check for wind like Flo Jo’s WR run next time i watch.

Get them both to commit to the 400/800 double and then we’ll talk.
 
Best year for Femke to try her hand at this before going back to the 400 hurdles. I’d LOL if Sydney carried out her vague threat to try her hand at the 800 sometime and thwart her there too (I really like Femke btw but it would surely amuse me).
 
I said the same thing about Sydney on the BSB podcast. Sydney vs Keely though…can you imagine?

I don’t really understand Femke moving at this point, sure, but it seems permanent. She hates the sprint training and it seems she’s done with it. I do feel the 400H in 2028 is her big chance at Olympic gold. Sydney coming back from pregnancy + potentially aiming at the 400 leaves the potential there more open than the 800 in my opinion.
 
World relays this weekend. Just seen they are on iplayer today and tomorrow. Just checked the teams and disappointing our women's 4x100 isn't our full team, I do love a relay.
 
No one’s arsed, with little at jeopardy other than the mixed qualification. It’s a long way to go for no real reason.
 
It gives some of the other girls a chance to step up, hopefully with something like the storming final leg from Success last year.

I see Zharnel is there, I guess there is more to figure out with the men.
 
Oh dear. Not so much of a Success this year.

Yemi ran a great final leg in the mixed 4x4 earlier though.
 
It’s such horseshit. They make fucking billions and hardly any of it trickles down.

Of course, World Athletics is beginning Olympic prize money next year, but so many other sports don’t have the funding to follow suit.

I knew it was going to be today she went sub 11. I fucking KNEW it.

And the thing is, Stockholm isn’t a quick track and also not super warm. I reckon she has 10.8 in her.
 
A NR for Keely but taken by Audrey Werro going third all time and just looked so strong going past her :o

I'm sure that Keely will improve her time further, though that is a real rivalry now.

And Mondo had a very off day and finally lost too.
 
Sub 1.54 is serious running. Werro is only 22 years old, interesting. Looks like an exciting event for the next few years.

On another note I keep forgetting these events are on, I need a reminder!

And there is the summation of why the Diamond League just doesn't catch on like it should RIGHT THERE. They flip flop it around schedules and times and no one ever really understands the "league" element of it at all...
 
Anyway, Keely will be furious with that, but I wouldn't worry too much- a nice chunk off her NR in her first 800 is a good place to be and they, I expect, would have been aiming for the WR in London. I still think she's got 1:52 in her. Has Werro right now? Who knows...but that was crazily impressive.

What is funny about the 800m right now is I think we all agree that Keely is a once in a generation talent...who seems every year to come up against another one! Athiing Mu, Mary Moraa, Audrey Werro...arguably Lillian Odira last year (though we know Keely was ill and we haven't seen Odira prove herself again yet). It really is a ridiculous level.
 
it was Werro and Bol’s turn to go head to head in Femke’s debut over 800 outdoors. Werro well ahead in another impressive time 1:54.45. Bol ran a very decent 1:57.13 in 2nd but was well beaten.
 
That 1:57 was really interesting to me. She looked so easy on the first lap and actually held on fairly well in the second. She just needs a bit more endurance in her legs.

Still insane she’s chosen to leave the 400 Hurdles when she could absolutely dominate for the next couple of years with Sydney out. Even if Sydney is back to full fitness by LA anyway, I think she’ll focus on the flat…
 
Yeah, I think whilst Marita’s 47.60 is still in place that’ll be Sydney’s motivation more than anything.

Still agog at the LA scheduling decisions re. the women’s 400/400H and the 100. Why would you not try and enable Sydney to be the absolute star of the show if she’s from your own hosting country?
 
They’ve changed schedules for others before but, yes, this seems to be too far gone now. I wonder if it means she’ll try something else as a secondary event? The 200 after the flat 400 would be interesting to see.

Sounds like she wants a challenge in an event rather than win constantly with Sydney out?

But do you do that at a point where you don't already have an individual Olympic gold?

She claims she just hates speed training and doesn't want to do it anymore.
 
I feel like this season is a free roll of the dice for Bol. It’s “only” a Euros season which she doesn’t need so she can see how the 800 goes relatively pressure free and no doubt pop back to the 400H in the global championship years should the 800 not go as she’d like. A year away might give her the motivation back.

And yes, this is the season to do it, but apparently she's adamant that she's done with the 400s. I mean, there is still so much unexplored potential over the flat 400- no way she isn't at least a low 48. second runner in that.

But agreed, maybe that will change, but we'll see..
 
Spent most of my day watching the very lengthy first day of the British champs. Enjoyable, listening to Tim Hutchings moaning notwithstanding.

Amy vs Dina part one went to form, also very encouraging winners in the women's sprint hurdles and men's LJ. Enjoyed Joel CK winning the HJ too.

Lovely to see recent retirees Asha and Adam as well.
 
Tim was so fucking annoying. I actually like the bloke but he has zero idea at this point. “Elise Thorner should not be running the steeplechase, she’s too much better than everyone else, her coach should have made her do something else…how about the 1500m” (that she would never medal in) ?

5 minutes later

“A British championship is so important. Medals are all that matter”.

SHUT UP.
