Shura - Obsession

Shura's debut album means so much to me that she can do WHATEVER SHE WANTS and I will stan for life. it's just one of the best records EVER.

I really would like a little injection of tempo this time. she can do introspective without being too downbeat, but I found forevher a little uniform/lacking in variety (although I proper love Bklynldn, Religion, Side Effects and Skyline).
 
I never really got into her second album but I love the first and I’m excited for this

Aside from a couple of tracks I was admittedly massively disappointed with the second album. She changed direction and I wasn’t prepared. I’m ok with different sounds but she seemed determined to experiment more and with it we lost the pop nostalgia of the masterpiece debut. She is clearly a very good songwriter not just in terms of lyrics but being able to pen an anthem. I would very much like that easy, accessible sound to return. I guess we’ll see.
 
Shura was going to be playing Manny Pride last year, gutted.

so just one new song? I don’t even remember the second album so I don’t know what’s new and what’s not

the new song is gorgeous tbf. It reminds me of Rosie Lowe not surprisingly, and also Banks

but I really want some bops from her. This is the girl who brought us Touch, White Light and What’s It Gonna Be, and she hasn’t brought us anything close since
 
1-4 are new although we got elevator girl last year. it's really good, better than this.
 
It’s nice but I’m underwhelmed. Makes sense that’s it’s tagged on to the last album as sonically it firmly belongs there.

I had forgotten all about Elevator Girl, it is practically a year old! A song called Obsession by all rights should go a bit deeper I think.

Guess Shura isn't one of those creatives who has enjoyed a super productive lockdown.
