I think I'll delay my rate until I'm prepared to listen all the way through. The perky melancholic pleasure maker Perfect is still a cleansing sigh of, well, perfection. Billy's soft snarl bristles into a warm breeze and it all pours and burns into Daphne Descends like having your glass topped up without having to ask. It bristles like a beard of fragmented glass. The elegance and violence is distilled plenty elsewhere. Pug is a thing of beauty under a blanket of thorns, Appels is right up my stream of conscious street and some of the ballads somehow manage to be the most poignant compositions I ever heard in spite of some of Billy's worst puns and imagery since coming up with the band's name. Flood is quite simply astounding and almost deserves more credit than Billy would give himself during a yell fest with D'arcy. Speaking of that old kook, this is her iconic peak and she set the bar so high for herself here that it's little wonder she quickly descended into drug-fueled chaos trying to live up to it. The album is divisive, but it came into my life at just the right moment (I mean, I was only 3, but nevermind). And speaking of coming into my life:
