Smashing Pumpkins - "Mellon Collie & The Infinite Sadness"

At the time Billy Corgan said he wanted to make a double record like The Wall and of course his megalomaniacal ways found him in hot water.
However, this remains a brilliant, expansive album which I think has stood the test of time.

May I add the artwork was flawless, the single choices inspired and yes, the recent vinyl reissue box is so lavish and worth every penny.

Has this been re-released? (Edit: yes!) I've seen it on instagram quite a few times over the last few days. I can make a 10/10 from it, but even as is I wouldn't change it as it was quite unique to me at the time. 1979 and Tonight are just pomp rock art fantasia. So many gems.

I reckon some of disc 2 can do with a bit of trimming but to be honest I'd much rather listen to Mellon Collie than The Wall. Come for me cis hets!!

His voice is definitely an ... acquired taste. But I think it generally works well on Mellon Collie. Had a really interesting chat with a 2nd hand record store 'dude' last week who turned to to be a huge Smashing Pumpkins fan. So yeah.

I have this but I genuinely think I only listened to it once...pretty sure it was one of Virgin's 5 for £30 deals and this was the one that made up the numbers! Life might be too short to give it another whirl. Although, given the choice between this and The Wall, the Smashies would be in the CD player faster than you can say "Roger Waters needs a serious boot in the dick".

Siamese Dream and Adore are their masterpieces for me and yet this jukebox confetti is probably where I'd recommend anyone start off. God, that shot of D'Arcy and James on the swing in the Thirty-Three video.

I bought Siamese Dream on cassette and I quite enjoyed it but my sister absolutely loved it so I just gave it to her. As such, I probably heard it coming through a wall more often than I heard it "properly".
